For the general election news and updates please go to General Elections
So i made a page about the general election in South Africa 2009. Here i will attempt to write about the 2009 run up to the election and all the news I find relevant I will place here. Most of this information might be totally irrelevant but I guess its a blog and I may say what I want.
24 September 2008
The DA called for general elections, saying:
“If the ANC is confident that recalling the president, the consequential resignation of cabinet and the potential resignations of premiers and mayors are in the best interest of South Africa, then let’s have an election now,”
This was said by DA Mpumalanga’s provincial legislature member Anthony Benadie in Leroro on Wednesday.
He also said that Thursday there will be a president that has never received a single vote from the public.
Another things he said was “The ANC must stop dictating to the people of South Africa, call an election and let the people decide on their future.”
Also “In 2009, it is not a given, as the war within the ANC has handed the power back to the people, who must decide who will lead them.”
The new president gets sworn (25th) into government. His name is Kgalema Motlanthe who was part of the Black Consciousness Movement. He has been in jail during the apartheid years. The question is what if he decides to stay, why should he leave and make space for Zuma?
Also, The Anc might split up, here in the Western cape it really looks like they are splitting up but that remains to be seen. If they do this will effect the general elections and can change the way things turn out. We might even see the DA or another party lead and we might have a brand new government. Hopefully.
My personal opinion is that they should wait until the ANC splits, then vote
28 September 2008
Now as you all may know from this blog, I am not some politician or some pro when it comes to the politics. I just know that in this country is really messed up. Anyway a few day ago Mbeki got fired we even had the communication minister Ivy to be president for a day. I am surprised Telkom and the others came through the day without her. If she would be president for more than a day it would most certainly spell disaster. I mean she is a total mishap.
To continue the story. A few day ago Mbeki was fired, the old Ivy was pressy for a day and then Some bloke called Kgalema Motlanthe took over and now drives the bus downhill. He fired most of the cabinet only leaving the really drunk ones. Except of course the voodoo onion health minister called Mantabella something. Anyway who cares. So now we have a new government with a bunch of noobs ruling the country. Oh except of course for the new Health minister. For once it looks like we actually have someone that knows what they want in life, and they are in the South African government or as I’d like to call it the guff eee mint.
So today in the news and all over the shit painted toilet we are hearing news of the ANC splitting up before the 2009 South African general election. As news 24 says
There are rumours of behind-the-scenes campaigning and that key proponents of the party are busy canvassing support from ANC members. But senior ANC leaders and supporters of former president Thabo Mbeki would not confirm anything.
But the minister of transport the king of drink and drive says:
“History shows what happens to a group breaking away from the ANC. They don’t get anywhere. Look at the PAC and UDM today. They disappeared into one-party groups. No, the ANC is not worried about a new party,” said Jeff Radebe, Minister of Transport.
Back to the topic of the Anc split
Although the ANC’s NEC and all the other clowns deny this we will have to wait and see who’s performing next in the circus.
29 September 2008
Today the South African communist party announced that the Anc has their full backing when the General elections in 2009 happen. They said:
“SACP is committed to participate fully and energetically in the 2009 elections,” SACP general secretary Blade Nzimande
On another note a survey shows that the DA show gains, whatever that means.
The ruling African National Congress and opposition Democratic Alliance are neck and neck among urban South Africans ahead of an election due next year, according to a survey in the Sunday Times newspaper. The survey of 1 500 city dwellers - who are more likely to be white and middle class - does not represent broader public opinion, but the paper said it showed rising discontent with the ANC after the ousting of Thabo Mbeki as president.
So whether or not the Anc will split i am sure they have lost some followers in this Mbeki vs Zuma story and half the ANC voting for Mbeki I think there is a big chance of them splitting up.
On Saturday Zuma said that they would prove that there is no alternative to the anc and anyone who leaves them wont succeed because of some crap about they are bigger than any individual that belongs to the Anc
4 October 2008
Although I have not kept this page exactly up to date a lot has happened this week. Today the Sunday Times also reported that Desmond tutu might not vote and that he in fact welcomes another party to the ANC. The new minister of Security Nathi Mthethwa said:
“South Africans have every right to feel this way. Crime is bad. That is a fact. It is not our (governtment’s) job to deny it, but rather to listen to what people are saying. We have to work together to find a solution.”
He replaced Charles Nqakula, that guy that said everyone should leave. In case you wonder they did leave and now South Africa has not only skills shortage but when the General election of 2009 will come they will not be here to vote out the ANC. Might of been their plan all along.
On another note the ANC is reported to have training camps, they found one up in the north somewhere, where 500 people are training for something. Although the ANC denies that these camps belong to them the camps are still there in full mostion training people for some unkown event. Some people say this is the training camps for the Uhuru also known as the Night of the long knives where black people would wipe out all white people when Mandela dies. But that will just have to be seen since it still is conspiracy.
Whatever these camps are for, its a bit weird.
Back to the topic of the Anc split, there is still now word about ANC split party that will challenge the ANC Zuma camp in 2009 elections. Although Since even Desmond tutu said he welcomes it I think there might soon be one. It will be great anyway because that way the ANC is smaller and easier to beat.
So today United Democratic Movement leader Bantu Holomisa said
“The new ANC leadership need to swallow their pride and accept that the hour has arrived,”
I am still unsure at this stage if there is a new party that splits away from the ANC but as Bantu says it would be a great thing. Another quote was
South Africa did not deserve a one-party state, and certainly did not deserve to be governed by “ANC puppets controlled by communists who don’t even have the guts to participate in elections”.
This is a great quote. I really think he hit the nail on the head there.
I have made a few updates but they are all on their own pages, you can read about it here:
Recap of the past few days - not in order
Mbhazima Shilowa - We need a Elected president
When will the new party be announced
Mbhazima Shilowa will not discuss the ANC
Mbhazima Shilowa’s press conference was basically to anounce his resignation
True test of democracy is now for South Africa
ANC, Unions afraid of break away party
Mosiuoa Lekota is backed by Mbhazima Shilowa and ready for a breakaway party
People leaving the ANC in streams
Will the ANC push for early elections for fear of losing the General elections in 2009
Zuma, ANC relieved - Many ANC members leaving on Sunday
So lets go on to today October 20 2008
Today it was all in the news about how the dogs have now left the ANC, according to the Womans youth league (from news24)
“Now that the dogs are leaving, there will be peace and we will be stronger. The dogs arrived in the ANC and they have left,” said ANCWL president Angie Motshekga, referring to dissidents such as Moiuoa Lekota and Mluleki George.
Looks like things are turning ugly now. There are many people leaving the anc and it does not seem to end. The ANC now does not know who is really in their party and who is only there for a while. They dont know who is really just sticking around until the new party calls them out.
Either way, another ANC party will just be another party that has the same issues as the one that has had control over South Africa now for so many years.
Also someone from the Womans league said this
“While democracy accommodates the formation of new parties, it is the purpose, the manner, and the timing of the formation of the call for the convention that calls for concern.”
So the story continues. Today was not that eventful and news full as the past few weeks but I am sure as the general elections comes closer there will be many new developments. Stay tuned at this page for updates daily.
20 October 2008 (continued)
Also today the Democratic alliance said that they will also be attending the national convention on 2 November that is called by people leaving the ANC to start their own party.
The DA says that the new party (what i have been saying as well) is still just the ANC and really has nothing new to offer, they have had their chance and made their promises and its time for someone else to show what they have to offer South Africa.
The ANC has also broken up the Scorpions by pushing the bill through, the debate will be held on thursday in the National Assembly which should be a heated one since many people and parties think the only reason the ANC wants the scorpions gone is because they dont want Zuma to go to jail.
On another note the Freedom Front Plus has today called for corporal punishment to be brought back to South Africa, they said with people like Julius Malema the country needs it back.
Quoting News 24
These included Malema’s statement that he was willing to “kill for ANC president Jacob Zuma” and another by Mpumalanga youth leader Isaac Mahlangu that he was willing to “kill all the cockroaches in their way of getting a university in the province”.
“This proves that the abolishment of corporal punishment was a mistake and has lead to a lack of respect and discipline in society.
“Recent newspaper reports further show that violence and discipline problems are everyday occurrences in schools.
“Pupils are expelled from schools or taken to court where ’six of the best’ used to be an alternative remedy,” the FF Plus Youth said.
“The Freedom Front Plus Youth requests that corporal punishment is brought back into schools.
“We believe that this will contribute to a more disciplined and safer learning environment.”
The DA also said and showed out the obviousness of how much the ANC has been hijacked by leftists. There seems to be much confusion in SA politics at the moment.
Its getting interesting.
22 October 2008
Zuma tell the other party to have their party
Zuma told the other party, the one that does not exist yet but everyone in the ANC fears to have their own party.
He also said and i quote from News24 :
“Most opposition parties spend their time criticising the ANC instead of putting forward convincing policy alternatives.”
What? Sure they do but the ANC majority rules out all their policy alternatives. Like the scorpions, oh and his own trial which he so willingly goes went to.
Now did he not just say that the other parties must put forward convincing policies?
Just afterwards he proves my point that it does not matter what the other parties say, the ANC will just do whatever they want to do (from news 24
Zuma said there was much “hype” around the dissident group. The media was attracted to it because they felt it might provide an alternative to the “highly dominant” ANC. The ANC would govern South Africa for “many decades to come”. No opposition party had put forward policies that challenged the ANC’s.
23 October 2008
ANC attacks on the rise
More and more attacks and threats are coming from the ANC. Just yesterday the DA claimed that two of their members were attacked by ANC members.
Today as well when I think it was Lekota or the other one going for the new ANC party that when he gave his speech were chanted at “kill Shilowa, kill Lekota”
So we can clearly see not only is the ANC starting to really stress now and the general elections are coming closer.
24 October 2008
Lekota tell tells the ANC to show restraint. This after his meeting had a low turnout because of the previous day when ANC supporters chanted Kill Shilowa, Kill lekota as I wrote earlier.
“We must protect the rights of other political formations and parties. We must protect the right to hold meetings, to talk to people.” Lekota said
So looks like a small scale war has started and as usually the ANC is ready to attack.
A piece from News24 shows Wilfred Malapane saying the following:
The main reason for anger at the ANC leadership elected at Polokwane in December, was their decision to remove former president Thabo Mbeki from office, Mosina added.
Zuma supporter Wilfred Malapane said Lekota was a “fat cat” who wanted to hold onto power.
“They think we are stupid, to hell with them, they are not welcome here,” said Malapane.
“They always want to be in power, they always want to remain fat cats, they are trying to destroy the ANC.”
29 October 2008
I thought Lekota has already resigned from the ANC but it turns out that he did not resign or send them a letter to tell them he’s no more part of the ANC.
He apparently said that he was not going to let the ANC win over him.
here is a interesting piece from News24
“If I write a letter and resign, then they are going to say ‘haauwa, there he ran’. I am not going to do that,” Lekota told a debate on South African politics with representatives of other political parties, including ANC spokesperson Jessie Duarte, in Johannesburg on Wednesday.
Lekota said South Africans had to get used to the idea of being free to listen to all political parties.
“There is no such thing in a democracy that you can say ‘I can have your vote until Jesus Christ comes: that’s out… no party has the right to say ‘don’t talk to people, they are my voters’,” he said. He was referring to a comment made by ANC president Jacob Zuma.
He said South Africa’s democracy was currently like an infant with teething problems with “runny tummy” and “cries all night”.
30 October 2008
The closer the 2009 General election comes the more interesting the political situation in South Africa becomes. Today Jacob Zuma who is also running for president since he is the head of the ANC announced that the people that want to leave the ANC should just do so. The Conference that Lekota is calling, where he is also calling all South Africans to attend is coming up, where we can expect many of the ANC leaving the ANC.
Another person that quit the ANC today was Willie Madisha who is the Former Congress of South African Trade Unions president. He said he will be sending his resignation to the ANC.
Also today the Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union said that Lekota must still be accountable for the weapons that was lost while he was minister. Now all of a sudden, but why was he not investigated when the ANC was still strong? Because they are corrupt. That’s why and any member that is part of the ANC just gets ignored when they do things wrong.
(news24)
“In fact, we are saying, the failures of these former Cabinet ministers to deal with this issue while they were still in government amounted to gross dereliction of duty highly punishable because it bordered on treason and coup… plotting,” the union said.
In Johannesburg residents promised to boycott the South Africa general election in 2009 if they dont meet the needs of basic electricity.
(news24)
“They are failing us, therefore no electricity no vote, and no water no vote”, Anti-Privatisation Forum spokesperson Silumko Radebe told a group of protesters outside Luthuli House in central Johannesburg.
31 October 2008
Interesting thought today was how the different political parties feel about certain topics like abortion, affirmative action and black economic empowerment. It will be interesting to see the different political parties pitch their version to convince the voters of what they feel about these topics. Although i dont think we can expect much from all the parties, also the ANC have promised before and what they promised has not happened so the other parties like the Democratic Alliance might use that against them.
I think the ANC will pitch mostly things about AA, BEE and such because most of their voters are black. The Democratic Alliance might make more sense but that remains to be seen as the election comes closer.
Lekota’s convention is coming up and more than 4000 people have registered to join the convention but the ANC says they should be ignored, the anc also says that the convention is only anti ANC convention.
Jacob Zuma also said these words today and I quote new24
“The ANC will never stray from the culture and traditions of our movement,” he said in a newsletter on the ANC website.
“We confirm that we will continue to draw inspiration from the lessons gained from the lives of Comrades Walter Sisulu, Govan Mbeki, Joe Slovo, Beyers Naude, Braam Fischer, Chris Hani, Dorothy Nyembe, Florence Mophosho, Billy Nair and many others,”
Helen Zille also said some very interesting things today just before the national convention
“The DA has long noted that the current political formations, trapped in the racial rhetoric of the past, are obsolete and that a political realignment is necessary to reveal the real political choices South Africa faces.”
The Constitution had to be the basis of this realignment. The defenders of the Constitution were currently located in various political parties, with the DA “at the forefront”.
“All those who believe in the supremacy of the Constitution, what I call the ‘regstaat’ [rule of law], belong in the same political party.
“All those who believe in the supremacy of the ruling clique of the ruling party, in other words, the ‘higher law of the party’, or the ‘magstaat’ [law of rule], belong in a different party,” Zille said.
The dividing line between these two opposing philosophies ran down the middle of the ANC.
“We believe the national convention could help separate the wheat from the chaff.”
Another person that quit the ANC today was Moses Mayekiso and it seems more and more people are leaving the ANC. This run up to the general elections is getting way more interesting now.
Lekota also officially resigned today and the ANC wishes him well.
Mbhazima Shilowa finally anounced the party everyone knew was going to come but the name will only be announced of the new party on Sunday. The party will officially be launched on the 16 of December which is also a public holiday. I wonder if this gives them enough time to get enough voters or if a lot of parties might join to win over the ANC.
Its getting more interesting now.
3 November 2008
The Lekota movement has not got their own name, the name of the breakaway party is the South African Democratic Alliance. Interesting to see that they use democratic because many of them were close friends with the South African communist party, Not so sure about that but anyway. So they had their meeting on Saturday where about 6300 people showed up. The costs were about R5 million rand which is not a small amount for a 1 day conference.
The party will still only officially start the 16 December which is also a public holiday in South African. The ANC is starting to look a bit unsteady now as well but that remains to be seen. The ANC also had issues with the South African Democratic Alliance almost being the SANC which the ANC complained about.
But here still is confusion because the IEC says the name South African Democratic Alliance has already been registered so they will have to go for some other name.
There has also been another resignation from the ANC, the new person that resigned is Mluleki George.
4 November 2008
So much happening with the upcoming elections. The new Lekota and Shilowa party still dont have a name. Another 6 people have resigned from the ANC and things are starting look rather bleak for the ANC. The members who quit were (quoting from IOL)
Balindlela, George, former ANC provincial spokesman Andile Nkuhlu, Amathole regional leader Moses Qomoyi, executive member of the provincial ANC Youth League Nkosifikile Gqomo, and a member of the Youth League executive committee disbanded in December 2006, Thabo Matiwane, announced their resignations on Monday.
The new party that still has not name is on the rise and given the ANC a run for their money. There is now a total split in the ANC and what once was the strongest political party in South Africa has become two divided forces that looks like they hate each other. It also looks as if the fight for the elections started earlier this year than usual, it still is about 8 months away to the general elections and we already see the streets covered with signs from the DA and off course the register to vote signs everywhere.
The ANC is now in full election mode and going for every oppurtunity to get supporters, just yesterday Zuma said and I quote from IOL
Zuma on Sunday painted the breakaway movement as representing the interests of the rich, telling his enthusiastic audience of about 5 000 people that “everything the ANC does, it does for the poor”.
“The ANC always has the interests of the poor and the destitute at heart. That is why we are here and not with the rich people (who attended the national convention in Sandton),” he said.
Now really he seems be delusional because the ANC has been in power for 14 years now and the country has gone from one of the richest in the world to one of the most violent, full of crime and poor nations in the world. What used to be a free and fair country back in the 90’s after Mandela first started has turned into a full blown circus with thousands of farmers being murdered and Mbeki’s failure in government. Not even to talk about the health minister that had no idea what is going on in health in South Africa and the world also denying aids.
Anyway since when do the ANC care about the poor people? Certainly not something we have seen and I am sure anyone that knows South Africa the couple of few years would know that its a bunch of nonsense.
Jacob Zuma who so hastely disbanded the scorpions also now uses crime in his hope for president speeches saying that crime must be stopped and all that. But what about all his crimes?
One thing is certain South Africa is about to have a whole new political situation and time.
6 November 2008
Not much is happening now with the elections also in you know where. The ANC is still losing members though, not only are they firing people they are also losing a lot of people.
Jacob Zuma rejected to debate with the Democratic Alliance or as news24 calls it “dodge” . Turns out Zuma is scared to debate and that is pretty laughable.
This weekend is voter registration which can turn out to be long queues and people striking and taking over the place again.
7 November 2008
The former Gauteng premier Mbhazima Shilowa party has a new name, again. This time they are using the name “Congress of the people”
But the ANC does not like that because they have some event yearly that has the same name called “congress of the people” and now they want to take legal advice against the new party. Looks like they will run into errors every time they choose a name. Failing even before they start.

spreading your message to the voters
November 8, 2008 by Anonymous (not verified),
There is a site called PublishALetter.com where one can write letters to the editors of all the key newspapers in South Africa and the world. Your readers might find the site useful to express their views about the candidates and the issues.
11 November 2008
Not much of interest has happened the past view days. The IEC registration was quick and easy, much easier than i though, there was no queues, no hassles. I actually was surprised.
Somewhere in the north of South Africa ANC supporters burned down a building in protest against something. Not sure what.
Also today, the nomination for president in the ANC has started.
15 November 2008
Seems like a small mini war has started between what we now know as the Congress of the people and the ANC. News24 and The mercury reported that
on Friday morning that about 50 Cope supporters had gathered at a hall to hear Lekota speak when about 200 ANC supporters stormed the hall in Verulam north of Durban.
It said that the supporters, most of whom were wearing T-shirts with ANC president Jacob Zuma’s picture and brandishing Zuma banners, burst into the hall and toyi-toyied, preventing the meeting from getting off the ground.
The ANC members, who were transported to the venue in bakkies, threw plastic chairs at the Lekota supporters and ripped Cope posters from the walls.
According to the Mercury the groups confronted one another, but senior Cope leaders, including former ANC national executive committee member Phillip Mhlongo, calmed their supporters down and prevented a fracas from breaking.
Mhlongo told the Mercury that Lekota was in the immediate vicinity, but did not arrive at the hall because of the security risk.
Police spokesperson Director Phindile Radebe confirmed that police had been called to ensure that calm was restored.
She said that no one was injured and that there were no arrests.
The ANC has also accused the new party or specifically Lekota that they are urinatign on the ANC and also accused them of “rubbishing” the ANC, whatever that means.
The closer this election comes the more heated it seems to get. We will just have to wait and see.
Another thing is online politics. It was also in the news that SA politicians dont really use the internet in its full capacity. That really is true but it might also be due to the fact that we have the most expensive internet in the world and failure as a communications minister that probably dont know the first thing about being online.
I think as time goes on they will spend more time and resources on the internet but not so sure about it.
22 November 2008
Things might seem normal here in South Africa at the moment but if you keep your eye on the news you will clearly see that’s not the case. Things are heating up politically, the general elections are coming fast and time is running out for small political parties to unite against the ANC.
The Congress of the People and the ANC is also sharpening their swords to fight each other. The Congress of the People is growing rapidly while the ANC loses members daily.
The political situation in South Africa is now moving to unstable as the genocide of white people still continues and no human rights organizations speaks out. A group called the Suidlanders is ready to move out in case of chaos and I would recommend everyone else do the same, time to pack those survival bags.
Many people might think this is a bunch of hype I am talking about, but remember this is Africa and it’s not like the rest of the world. Here war’s start in seconds, not days or months.
23 November 2008
It is clearly election time because the ANC has again started promising their voters land, even telling that it will be the end of big farms. The Mail and Guardian reported Tozi Gwanya, director general of the Department of Land Affairs saying:
“one farmer, one farm” should be seriously considered.
“Though it is a bad slogan,” he smiled. “It reminds me too much of one farmer, one bullet.”
In a submission to Parliament last week Gwanya proposed a new land tax designed to discourage ownership of vast tracts of unutilised land.
Also the farm attacks is on the increase, and it sure looks like South Africa is starting to go the Zimbabwe route. It’s like the citizens of South Africa is living in a war zone.
You can also keep an eye on the frontpage with General Election
27 November 2008
So much has happened in the last few days that will affect the general elections. In the first place the COPE (congress of the people) apparently called Jacob Zuma a rapist. Long story but now they want to take the Congress of the people to court. What’s more interesting is that some youth leader from the ANC youth league has called the Congress of the people cockroaches and that is hate speech. Also what I wrote about the 8 steps to genocide, one of the steps is calling people cockroaches or comparing them to animals that must be killed.
After that ANC blamed their stupidity on poor English. Again.
In the past few days there has also been many talks surrounding violence at election times, the ANC are mainly those that are attacking other people at the moment. Next year is still far and i am sure there will be much more interesting events unfolding before then.
Here is a part of IOL
In damning footage being aired worldwide by international news channel Al Jazeera, Jason Mkhwane, the chairperson of the league branch in Sedibeng, southern Gauteng, is heard saying: “People like Terror Lekota and all those people who want to destroy the history of the organisation (ANC), they behave like cockroaches and they must be destroyed”.
Those were his exact words.
1 December 2008
Its now 1 December already and the year is almost coming to a end but its different politically. The end of the ANC might be at hand. More and more meetings of the Congress of the people are now being disrupted by the ANC. There might also come a new rule or law that puts the police above the law. I guess i am hyping it now but why would the police need to have that done, well the elections are coming up that’s why.
On another topic it seems like the news is not that on the go at the moment except for the ANCYL calling the Congress of the people cockraoches and that they need to be killed as I wrote earlier.
The other day there was some poll in one of the local newspapers that said the ANC has 72% support of the country. I think that survey or poll is a bit incorrect. I dont know who they asked.
Zuma is also promising every group and race exactly what they want to hear, The ANC is also promising something like 5 million houses in the next 5 years ( something like that) point is they are saying that they will build houses again etc.
So the promises are starting.
Another strange trend is I see white people joining the Congress of the People. I thought it was a only black party. Wonder what they will promise white South African.
5 December 2008
The news has been awfully silent for a information seeker like me. Things have been happening though. I hope I can sum it all up here.
First off, the government has officially said they failed stopping crime. They have failed the people of South Africa by far, on another note Afriforum is sueing the government because they failed to do anything about the crime situation. This might not sounds like it has to do a lot with the general elections but it does.
Service delivery is not as important as stopping crime, might not be in other’s opinions but my opinion is crime is the worst issue.
The Congress of the people is growing big, in fact many white people are joining and they are turning into a real multi racial party, unlike the ANC that is for black people only. The race issue is still big in South Africa and if two parties like the DA and the Congress of the People would join, that would ultimately be big leap towards a not so racist country.
Many people still feel like the Democratic Alliance is still the old NP, national party from the old days. They still have that image to sit with and surely must seek a way to change it for because of that many people still put the race issue there and black people might not join because of that.
Not only that, this will be the last chance to get rid of a government that is governed by a Jacob Zuma led ANC. Next elections is some time away and the rate the country is going now there might not be much left of the country by the next election.
Also in the news today was that the DA seeks funds, they dont get that much funds like the ANC does by their BEE supported companies.
Also ANC member of Parliament Mampe Ramotsamai has quit the party to join the Congress of the People.
Another survey is also suggesting that the ANC is losing supporters. The closer the election comes the smaller they get. I wonder if its a Zulu vs Xhosa thing since Mbeki is Xhosa and Zuma is Zulu.
6 December 2008
Looks like the Arms deal will haunt Jacob Zuma until there is a court case. FW de klerk and Desmond Tutu has called for the official or independent investigation into the arms deal.
Also, the ANC turns down a chance to debate about the falling constitution. The debate around the attack on the constitution held by many parties. The ANC says there is not attack on the constitution, although there clearly is.
11 December 2008
As many people would of thought the Congress of the people scored big time in the by-elections that were held.
The ANC who failed to register only won 3 seats so far. They must of thought because they are the dictating party they dont have to obey the law as they usually do.
This also confirms that there is a massive ANC split that has officially happened.
The anti democratic ANC even tried to stop the by-elections by blocking the way to the halls. They also gave food in hope that some ignorant people would actually fall for it and ignore the past 14 years of failure.
Also the ANC who is probably the biggest black only party now also wants “coloureds” saying that they are part of the ANC all of a sudden.
Now that they are losing voters and members in droves they realize they cant just sit and do nothing like their friend Mugabe does.
The ANC also called to boycott the by-elections. They were driving down the street intimidating people.
They were also saying while driving down the street with a speaker on the car
‘You cannot vote, that’s the decision’
They basically broke the law.
Helen Zille also said that South Africa wants change, they are tired of the ANC and their lies.
15 December 2008
A lot of things are going on. The ANC is upset because of their losing streak against the Congress of the people. They are now blaming the Congress of the People for using tactics the same as the National Party used to do. When in fact its totally the other way around. Cope meeting have been constantly interupted, their members are threatened by no other than the ANC and intimidation is the idea of the day from the ANC.
The growing support and members joining COPE is now bigger than ever. They might make a bigger dent in the ANC than anyone thought.
The ANC as usual is trying to stop more people from the voting registration so that the new party will miss out on more votes. If there ever was apartheid tactics this would be it.
Also the official 2009 general election date has not been decided as far I know although many people say it will be between 6 May and 13 May 2009. While some also say early elections might be on the 25 of March or around there.
The SABC reports that the Young Communist League of South Africa accused Thabo Mbeki of giving the political direction to the Congress of the People.
The COPE has also a Facebook campaign. They already have 9000 members and growing. They have a plan to “invade” Facebook and contact people overboard that should also have the right to vote.
23 December 2008
A week since the last update. That’s bad. The thing is not much has been happening really. Except for Allan Boesak and Pieter Marais joining the Congress of the People. There is a lot of ranting about that from people that want to join the Congress of the people. Even though Allan Boesak was pardoned by Mbeki, we all know that means nothing because Mbeki is just as corrupt.
The ANC has still been losing and firing members, they are panicking because it seems they have to do real work for a change.
A bit of interesting news is that South Africa has its first San party ever.
The Khoisan Aboriginal and Others Movement will contest next year’s general elections under the leadership of Rodney January. from News24
The Congress of the People have also officially registered their party and is now a official political party in South Africa.
The Western Cape has become the hottest topic of the week since the ANC is on a full out mission to get the Western Cape back since really losing it in the by-election where they failed to register. They also want to change more laws that has to do with the elections. Although this is not clear yet.
Jacob Zuma is already out campaigning for the general elections handing out food and giving things away to get the people in poor places on his side again. If they will believe the promises like they did in the last elections that remains to be seen. Personally I think most people knows the ANC lies when it comes out with promises just before the elections.
Oh by the way we also have created a tag so you can easily follow the general election posts
Be sure to have a look
31 December 2008
So its the end of 2008 as we know it. The end of one of the greatest and most interesting years for South African politics.
What 2009 will bring, only God knows and I hope it turns out to be good.
More and more people are leaving the ANC and the COPE (congress of the people) looks stronger than ever. It seems that they might stand a bigger chance of winning a bigger part of the votes than most people expect.
Four members left COPE this week to join the ANC, I dont know who these “members” are but just yesterday the ANC lost some well known people to the Congress of the People .
Iol reported:
The resignations of former ANC Dullah Omar chairperson Thozama Bevu, Connie Blaai, John Mokoena, and Ntsikie Mgayiya were announced at a COPE rally attended by about 1 000 residents in Harare, Khayelitsha, on Tuesday.
So the ANC is now really on a losing streak and I hope it continues because this country and the people of this country is tired of the ANC’s corruption and power hungry money running thieves in government.
HAPPY 2009 TO ALL, I HOPE THIS YEAR BRINGS SOME POSITIVE THINGS TO SOUTH AFRICA AND THE ELECTIONS WOULD GIVE A GOOD OUTCOME.
4 January 2009
So its already 4 days into the new year and there is not much news yet. Except for the drunken behavior of the ANC again.
On 03/01/2009 News24 reported that the ANC had stormed a place where COPE was having a meeting. The meeting was disrupted and the ANC members seem to have been drunk.
Police in Mpumalanga had to be called to restore order at a Congress of the People meeting in Mbuzini after ANC members stormed the venue on Saturday, they said.
Superintendent Abie Khoabane said about 50 African National Congress members went to the Samora Machel hall on Saturday, demanding use of the venue.
You can see that the ANC might not take this election lightly since they stand a big chance to lose. I can remember in the past how dangerous certain places become over the elections. Especially poorer areas.
Not sure this year will be any different though.

Hi. I just wanne say I really hope that the ANC loses the elections, as cleche as it sounds. One of the problems also though is the fact that there are so many parties out there that the votes get split which results in less votes against the ANC. That’s how they won the last elections. There were like 9 different parties to vote for. Come on SA, wake up a little bit. And also if other parties want ANC to lose so badly, then they also need to make a few exceptions to join parties. We need to work together, not be stubborn and disagree with every little thing another party wants to do once in power. Overlooking a few things can really help put ANC out of power for good and make a better SA.
