Ellisras, South Africa – Koos Daffeu a 46 year old farmer from Ellisras who is also a member of Solidarity was shot dead in an ambush about 5 km from Ellisras while travelling to work.
On his way to work he was ambushed and shot at, while it is still unknown if one of the shots caused him to crash his car, he crashed his car just meters from where he was shot at. The attackers that apparently hid under the low bridge and waited for him then shot the unarmed man at point blank, they stole nothing and with most other farm attacks it seems as if the only motive is that they wanted Koos dead.
Koos was found dead in his crashed car with bullet wounds, bullets casings scattered around the car. The suspects are gone. At this point it is also unknown just how many attackers there were.
Solidarity said that it is clear that the SAPS is not able to protect people from crime in South Africa, they said the resulting murders in South Africa speaks for themselves. In South Africa 40 people per 100 000 get murdered whereas the international norm is only 5 per 100 000
