If I could think of the best plugin of all the wordpress plugins I think it would be Adman. Adman is made to put your ads before, in the middle and after your posts. You dont have to use only ads you can embed any thing before or after your content. Anything. I use it to embed my technorati badge in my content that way people will bookmark or fav my site easier. You can use it for Google Adsense or anything where you have to embed code. There is also a settting to show a ad before your content on the frontpage or you can choose to have no ads show on the frontpage. That way you can have for instance a entrecard and adsense without letting your CTR go down like a duck hunt.
