- For those Joomla users who have not yet heard of it, JoomlaDraft.com has the perfect solution for setting up joomla sites on a local server, especially for those of you who set them up for clients. The best part about their application is that it can run off a flash drive, incorporating in their latest version:
- Joomla 1.5.4
- Apache 2.0.54
- MySQL 4.1.12
- PHP 5.2.3
- phpMyAdmin 2.6.2-pl1
I have personally been using this compilation for quite a while and have found it invaluable especially with the cost of Internet in South Africa. I have also just updated to the latest JoomlaDraft Joomla Server, powered by mov’AMP. If any of you have trouble uploading a completed Joomla site, or just want to know how, you can contact me: info@cyburbia.co.za
To Download the Stand Alone Server, CLICK HERE, available for joomla 1.0.x and 1.5.4 Versions.

As I said a few days ago I am working on a Ubuntu Magazine style wordpress theme. The wordpress theme will look like the new Ubuntu and will be GPL released. I will be posting the mockup tomorrow. Please keep in mind that I am not a professional theme designer so only doing this in spare time.
Please keep in touch for the Mockup of the them either tomorrow or sometime this week. The theme will only be released in the next month or so. So if the official theme for Ubuntu changes so will the theme.

I used to use Drupal and Wordpress and Joomla and Xoops. That was until they all started updating. Knowing so little about CMS’s at the time and how to upgrade anything I just could not upgrade my CMS’s. The only one I could update was Wordpress. Being such a lazy person I tried to upgrade only once the old ones but it failed. Now I had about 50 sites running. Since switching to Wordpress I could upgrade all my sites. Some of them with a click or two. That is the primary reason that made me use Wordpress as a CMS. Wordpress is the best for noobs that dont really know how to run a site.
I am not saying that Drupal is crap at all, but you have to know what you are doing if you use Drupal. I still use Drupal for some site but only when I really need to. Drupal drive big sites like MTV uk and sites like Popsugar. If only Drupal could be upgraded the same why Wordpress could.
But for every new Drupal you need new modules whereas Wordpress only needs the same modules. You can probably use some plugins that were made a year ago.
Dont even start with Joomla. Having two versions of the same software just confuses the crap out of a noob.

Now here is as nice free wordpress theme I have not seen before today. This is a Magazine style wordpress template because it has the featured function. If a theme has the featured function I think its enough to call it a Magazine style theme.
This particular wordpress theme has a sliding feature section. Not sure what the exactly it uses but it looks great. There is also place ready for the 300×250 Google Adsense ad format or any other format you can use. The colours are black and white with a bit of gray which also makes it easier for readers. Easy on the eye.
A narrow main area will make your content look more than it is if you dont type a lot. Which is a good thing because it may appear like you have a lot to say when in fact you only write a few words. The wordpress template has a right sidebar as you can see.
It can be downloaded here

5Thirtyone is one of my favourite designers for Wordpress themes and as you might know I like wordpress themes that are GPL. So here is a new one called Wordpress V2 theme.
The theme is nice and clean with no clutter.

All my sites used to run on Joomla. I was a big Joomla fan, had my own Joomla templates site and tips. But when they split the project in two it really confused a lot of people. Something as big as Joomla should really only have one version at a time.
Not only that. The modules used to be open source but now they have more commercial modules to buy than you can download that’s open source.
Another thing is the constant links in the modules. The people that make them stuff them with links. Then when you use the modules its like you’re breeding a link farm.
Joomla itself is not that bad or it was not that bad. But until they have one Stable version and not two separate builds of Joomla I would be sticking to Drupal and Wordpress to build websites.

Last night I had issues with a site running on Drupal. I could not get to upload images to my blog. So I decided to change the blog to Wordpress only to realise that Google likes Drupal more than Wordpress.
There was this keyword I have been trying to get for months. I just could not get in the fist 10 pages of Google for it since its a widely used word and many poeple optimize for it.
But I noticed one thing. As soon as I installed Drupal it got to page 5. Now that I am using Wordpress for my blog again the keyword I am hoping to get listed on 1st for Google would probably now drop again. No matter how much you do SEO in Wordpress, Drupal still comes first.
I actually dont have a answer to the question.

Kb linker is a Wordpress plugin that links certain words in your blog to a url you give it. Using KB linker it’s easy to do keyword sniping by linking back to your old articles and using a keyword from that article to “snipe” it. Google obviously see the importance of a site or article by how many links goes to that article. But sometimes people do not think that their own links to their own articles on the same domain counts as well for those inbound links.

Today I installed Drupal 6 and its been great. Its so good if I was not such a big Wordpress fan I would of considered going with Drupal. Drupal 5 was a mission to get the comments working so that someone could leave a comment with their url. But with Drupal 6 that has all been fixed. According to me you can now use Drupal 6 for a blogging system as well. Drupal 6 is also faster. It might be my imagination but I really think its faster. There are not that many modules yet for it so I guess I would have to wait for that. But so far it’s worth to check it out if you are a CMS fan or a webmaster.

Wordpress is made for bloggers. Any blogger would want to use Wordpress for their blog because of the great features and plugins. But why is this platform better than any other??
The answer is that Wordpress is made for blogs. Your blog automatically gets added to technorati if you use Wordpress. Wordpress saves your articles every few seconds while typing and already has comments system built in. The best thing about wordpress is that you can use it from the moment its installed with no tweaking. Although changing to a better theme will do your blog wonders.

I am glad to say that I am now finally satisfied with how my site looks. During the last week or two I kept on changing how my site looked. It just did not look that good for me. Even though the red layout was great it was not what I was looking for.
So now my site is finally starting to get to a point. I also removed a bunch of plugins that made my site so slow. Maybe you noticed that is a bit faster. So you can expect some post from me now again.
