How’s your work enviroment?

The ability to work on the internet as a full time job and the success thereof will depend on your working enviroment. That is the reason you see these big companies and online empires have these great offices. Because if your working enviroment is not comfortable you wont be able to reach your full capacity working wise. There are a few things when working that will effect you and if you make sure your working enviroment is just right you will be able to be more productive.

The lights in a office or building could effect you negative and could make you way more tired if they are in the wrong setting and if they are to bright they could give you headaches.

Fresh air is a neccessity and if you dont have that you will also get tired way faster than in a office with fresh air. Working in a stuffy, dirty air enviroment will not benefit you or the company you work for as you concentration is almost double when having fresh air to breath in and out.

Seat, Some people sit so uncomfortable but either its way to much of a mission to clean up your working space or you just cant but if you sit uncomfortable you obviously wont enjoy your job, you will get tired quicker and wont want to stay on the seat for to long.

Coffee, Who can work without a nice cup of coffee. If you are limited to one cup of coffee at work you really should fire your boss.
I guess that’s about it for now. What Working tips do you have?

Make it Happen - By Muhammad Karim

A three-word motto which helps me get things done: Make It Happen. I have it placed just below my monitor on a square piece of green paper with the three words written in red. These three little words always seem to push me forward on my quest to write, spread knowledge, help people, educate people, encourage creativity, and encourage movement. Whenever there’s something to be done, no matter what it is, I just know one thing… I need to Make it Happen.

I was sitting in wonder as to what could I possibly write as a guest post for From the Old and here it is. A short indulgence on what I see drives people away from lazy meanderings to actually achieving something. That inner voice within each of us that we either choose to ignore, or we listen wholeheartedly to it; either way it irritates you, nags you into action.

So the first step I guess is to listen to yourself, look within and try to see what it is you want to achieve in life. It may take some time but after a while it will become clear to you as to what you have to do. The next step is to do it.

So how do we “Make it Happen”?

I’ll lay out just two things which have made me get a little bit closer to achieving my goals.

  1. Make a List – write down what you want to achieve and go for them one at a time. Long-term, short-term, it doesn’t matter… just make sure it’s written down. Read it out loud everyday, or at least look at it everyday. This will focus you on what you want and remove other distractions. It keeps your priorities top of mind.

  1. Start Something – Do anything. Read a book on something which may lead you to completing something on your list, talk to someone about something you’re interested in, paint a picture of what you want to achieve. Do something! Take a step towards what you want.

That’s it… a three word mantra and the two points above. There is no secret to Success, if you really want to succeed, you will find a way. The only reason some of us never make it happen is because we are either subconsciously afraid of what we want to achieve, or we don’t know what we want. Don’t let this happen to you.

Follow your heart, and Make it Happen!

Tips on Productivity from The Princess Bride

This guest post was written by Wess Stewart from thesugarbuzzproject.info

When I was your age, television was called books.
So far, I have not seen many television programs dedicated to productivity (without somehow involving outdoor sports). If you are having trouble getting organized or streamlining your production and your hair is at risk of being pulled out, you might want to pick up a book (or RSS feed) that offer some tips on being productive. Television will not help you.

You’ve got an overdeveloped sense of vengeance. It’s going to get you into trouble someday.
Use criticism to your advantage, don’t get irate and begin firing off an angry email. It detracts from your focus on the goal of your project. If someone gives you or your work a bad review, don’t let it get to you. There’s no need to get stressed out. If you can, just fix the problems (time permitting). If that is not possible, just take the criticism, learn from it, and try not to duplicate the same results the next time.

Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father prepare to die.
If you have a small goal that is within your grasp, go after it. When you can achieve something in a negligible amount of time (small enough not to detract from more important tasks, but large enough to cause you to lose focus), just do it. If that stack of papers on the corner of your desk needs to be filed in the cabinet across the room, just get up and do it. It will help you clear your workspace and give you that ‘I just accomplished a task…yay me’ feeling.

The eel doesn’t get her. I’m explaining to to because you look nervous.
If you and your coworkers are panicking, you will lose focus on the task at hand. Offer some words of encouragement. Happy employees/coworkers make the work easier to stomach. More can be accomplished if you can work together and remain calm.

You rush a miracle man, you get rotten miracles.
Cutting corners is not always a good thing. Productivity and delivering a product are not the same thing. Quality work is important, so take the time to do things the right way. For example, if you are a manufacturer, and you put out a poorly engineered product in order to be ahead of the competition, your productivity suffers when you have to deal with all the returns and refunds involved with producing a rushed product.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Be clear with your instructions and comments. There’s no need to show off…just say what you mean in a simple, direct manner. Big words aren’t always the best way to communicate.

Look, I don’t mean to be rude but this is not as easy as it looks, so I’d appreciate it if you wouldn’t distract me.
Turn off the television, forward your calls, ignore your email, and don’t surf the net unless it is somehow going to immediately benefit you by helping you gather information needed for the task at hand. And stop with the text messaging while driving…someone will end up dead.

I’ve just sucked one year of your life away. I might one day go as high as five, but I really don’t know what that would do to you. So, let’s just start with what we have.

Don’t get carried away with completing a task quickly. Take it slow and steady, and in the end you will be less stressed, and more productive.

Tyrone, you know how much I love watching you work, but I’ve got my country’s 500th anniversary to plan, my wedding to arrange, my wife to murder and Guilder to frame for it; I’m swamped.

Prioritize task based on importance, and don’t let unrelated tasks get in the way of taking care of business. Work first, play later.

But it’s so simple. All I have to do is divine from what I know of you: are you the sort of man who would put the poison into his own goblet or his enemy’s? Now, a clever man would put the poison into his own goblet, because he would know that only a great fool would reach for what he was given. I am not a great fool, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you. But you must have known I was not a great fool, you would have counted on it, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me…Not remotely.Because iocane comes from Australia, as everyone knows, and Australia is entirely peopled with criminals, and criminals are used to having people not trust them, as you are not trusted by me, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you…Wait til I get going! Now, where was I?…Yes, Australia. And you must have suspected I would have known the powder’s origin, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me…You’d like to think that, wouldn’t you? You’ve beaten my giant, which means you’re exceptionally strong, so you could’ve put the poison in your own goblet, trusting on your strength to save you, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you. But, you’ve also bested my Spaniard, which means you must have studied, and in studying you must have learned that man is mortal, so you would have put the poison as far from yourself as possible, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me…IT HAS WORKED! YOU’VE GIVEN EVERYTHING AWAY! I KNOW WHERE THE POISON IS!…I will, and I choose - What in the world can that be?
Keep it simple, stupid.

I just work for Vizzini to pay the bills. There’s not a lot of money in revenge.

If you can’t reach your goals on the path you are running down, change gears. There’s no use trying to make progress if your methods are flawed.

Goals

Many times we want to achieve goals. But those goals do not ad value to our lives. Recognizing a goal worthy of running after is important. But filtering out those goals that will waste your time and does not ad any value to your life is just as important.

So here is what to check for if you have a goal and you are not sure if its worth going after.

1. Does it ad value to your life?

If a goal does not ad value to your life what is the point of following it.

2. Will it make you happy if you achieve this goal

Many times we want to reach something just to please other people. But will that really make you happy if you achieve it? If it wont why are you going after that goal?

3. Does it help your future?

School is a goal I many times think I could of done without half of it. Except for the typing the rest was junk. Especially those maths. But that was because I knew my career would be in computers. That was my interest.

So going after goals should really help or improve your future.
Are you doing that degree for self satisfaction or will it really help your future. Will it push you one level up where you are not currently?

Same with computer courses. I wont do them because I can learn it myself, but if the goal is to get a certificate for work purposes that is a goal worth going for.

4. Will it waste your time?

By this I mean, what happens when you have completed your goal? Do you use what you have gained further on in life or is the goal passed and now you need to look for some new adventure? Goals can be a waste of time. You really have to ask yourself “Can I go without reaching this goal” and if you can, there really is no point in trying to achieve it.

5. Is it practical and will you enjoy it?

I will use myself as a example here. Currently I am learning Wing chun. It is a goal for me to become good at it. So there are two things here. I need to learn to defend myself better which is 1 part of the goal and the other part is that I would really enjoy learning something new. So this really is something worthwhile for me to go after. Since its practical and I might use it in the future.

6. Merge your goals

As I just said above I am learning Wing Chun. I have two goals, 1 to get fit and another 1 to learn self defense and Wing chun because i find it interesting. So by doing Wing Chun I am actually taking on two things or goals I would like to achieve. I am getting fit with all the excersize and I am reaching my goal of learning self defense. So that is how you can look at ways to achieve your goals. Can you do one thing that would make you complete more than one goal at a time?

Thank you for reading and remember if you have goals make sure that they are not wasting your time.

Time, Use it wisely.

Time is what seperates you and death. We should all use the time we have in the best way we can possibly think of. Spending time on things that does not achieve or ad value to your live is probably time waisted.

Think about it this way. You get to grow 80. But you have spend 30 years of those 80 years doing something you really hate or just did not like.
That means you actually only have 50 years of you life that you really lived and enjoyed.

Deathbed.

The best way to learn about life and having no regrets is to listen to old people just before they die. They would usually say if asked “I wish I had more fun” or some would say “I wish I took more chances”. Difference people would say different things. This is the best place to learn from other people.

Family.

One of the biggest regrets people have when their children grow up is that they which they had spend more time with them when they were younger. They grow up so quickly and if you are to busy you might just miss out on one of the most important things in life.

Faith.

This is probably the biggest and most important thing in life. Depending what you do in this life depends where you will spend eternity.
Difference.

Knowing the difference between what really matters and what does not is also one of the keys to living a happy life. Check what is important to you, what you would like to achieve in life. Does your goals have any value in them, would they make you a better person? Or would you just have the feeling of accomplishment when you have achieved that which you are dreaming about.
Explore.

Many people work their lives away, they dont see much of their families and they dont enjoy their jobs. That is really depressing. Exploring different ways you can lead your life to improve both your productivity and your time usuage will benefit you most in the long run.
Dreams.

You know that movie when the chick is about to die and then she spends all her cash doing the things she really wanted to do all her life? Well that is really what we should be doing. We should digg out the fun things in life and do those things we would enjoy and would brighten up our lives. We should live as if today was the last day.

Achievements.

People think because they are rich they have achieved everything in life, they chase after money their entire life and when they finally get it they realise that money wont make them happy. The fact is money can buy you luxury and all the possesions you really want. But money or achievements can not make you happy. When you close your eyes and you die, the things that really matter will only be realised then. The best way is to try and figure that out now. While you are alive.
Conclusion.

Have fun in life and think what you do before you attempt a goal.
