Learning photography: The eye viewer is important when choosing to buy a camera

I am not a professional photographer but a I know a bit, at least I know to get a camera with a eye viewer. The reason for this is because a few weeks ago a friend of mine asked what camera she should get. So because I am a Nikon and Cannon fan I told her to go with one of those. Just a normal camera that almost anyone can afford.

So she went to Somerset Mall and into Incredible Connection where she found a Nikon camera. The next day I went taking a few photos with a powershot A530 and enjoyed myself until I just could not see anything on the lcd screen and had to look through the eye viewer because the sun was to bright. That is when I realised how important that little square is on any camera.

I immediately told my friend but she decided to buy her choice. So that’s how I learned the value of the eye viewer of a camera. Small and really irrelevant post here on my blog but one day you might run into the same situation when you want to go do some photography and cant decide on which camera to take

Always resize your photographs before submitting them online

One way of protecting your images and photography and have 100% proof that a image or photograph belongs to you is to always make it a few sizes smaller before submitting it online. That way no one else can claim to have taken the photograph because you have the original size which is not easy to proof wrong.

There are many ways to stop people from stealing your images including watermarks but I guess the easiest way is just to resize you images.
The best way to also make money from photographs while showing people how they look is to make them about 800×600 and if someone wants to buy it you can send them the original picture.

Winter in South Africa is the best time to do photography

In the winter times the sun is not as bright as in the summer times here in South Africa. That means you get more shaddows and more darker sceneries which makes better photos, for instance in the summer its so hot and the colour of the sky and air becomes almost faded. The darker it is the better the colours stand out.

The most famous photographers claim that the best time of day to take photographs is in the morning and when the sun goes down. I agree with that. The colours stand out that time of day. The Karoo is one of my favourite places to do photography and to take a few photos, the best time of day there as well is early morning.

Check your camera setttings

One thing I do when going on a photography drive is to sometimes just leave the camera on Auto. So this morning I took a couple of shots of a photo and had the ISO on 1600. So we decided to go for a drive and without noticing I took most of the photos with ISO on 1600 and it came out all messed up. It sucks because today in the Helderberg the clouds made the entire place dark and the sun was so bright behind the clouds that you could take the best landscape photographs.

So one thing, always check your settings before taking photos in drive mode.

Landscape Photography - Hangklip

I think I might of posted this photo before but here it is. This is Hang Klip. I thought this was Rooi els but nevermind.

Hangklip is well known for fishing as well as holiday accommodation in the western cape. You can see some fisher boats if you look closely. This place also used to be a big crayfish diving area.

Hangklip also has some sharks and is about 100km’s away from a famous shark diving spot.

Christmas Dinner photo - Wine and fork

This photo was taken over Christmas this year. I decided to do a few macro (sort of) photos and took a nice shot of a wine bottle and a fork.
