I still dont know if Coolbay is part of Cape Town or Overberg. But here is a photograph of a wave breaking in one of our best surfing spots. There is also a surfer in the water if you look closely. As I said there is a strong current here and surfing can be dangerous. There are also some nice caves but they can also be dangerous. Coolbay and Crystal pools are great places for photography.

This is a new photo i took just two days ago of Coolbay. That is most of Coolbay you see right there. Coolbay is a famous surfing spot close to Gordons Bay and here you can have a nice preview of the waves. The current is very strong though and it is a dangerous place to surf.

This river used to be full. I dont know if there is a drought now or if its just the time of year but a few years ago this river used to be a strong river, as a child I can remember the snakes that used to cross the river while swimming in the river. The river is just outside Greyton, not entirely it might actually be in Greyton but I guess you get the picture. This is the same river that continues to Riviersonderend if I am correct. When you drive on the gravel road on the way to Riviersonderend (the road to also get to George and Knysna) you will see a green path for some of the way on the gravel road. This is the river you are seeing. For miles there are just the bare dusty roads but the green strip stands out.
Greyton is a great place for a holiday and there are also some great places to stay and accommodation. There are things to do like horseback riding and exploring nature. There is also a big nature reserve and for those that want more adventure you can climb the mountain.

When going to Crystal Pools in Gordons bay or rather closer to Coolbay or what people call Kogel baai in Afrikaans, remember to get a permit. Its a nature reserve and your contribution will keep you both out of trouble and out of the grips of the angry bush patrol or whatever you call them. Crystal pools is far and the walk to crystal pools is to far to have a argument with someone.
The permit costs R10 which I think is fair considering they put gates around the place to keep those baboons out.
Last time we went to crystal pools there were baboons, they harassed this one woman. When we walked up there was this guy going down, he had a bag in his hands. On the way to crystal pools this lady was ambushed by baboons and they took her bag and chucked everything out of it. They ripped the bag and scared the crap out of the people.
So if you go to crystal pools remember to carry a stick.

Classic Greyton hosue. Thick walls, small wooden frame windows. Just like they build it 100 years ago.
Greyton as I wrote in a earlier post is a great place to relax, and forget about city life. Greyton is a small town and as you can see on this house there is a for sale board on it. Houses in Greyton are strangely expensive. Although not that strange if you have ever been there. Greyton is the most beautiful little town or one of the most beatiful towns in South Africa.
There is one school in Greyton I know of which is LaerSkool Uitkyk. Its been there for about 100 years. Further on there is the waterfalls in the nature reserve close to the Mountain and there are many other things to see.
Greyton is the perfect weekend getaway.
Plots start from R500 000, so not anyone will just buy a plot there.

Crystal Pools is a series of waterfalls. So they say. I for one only got to this waterfall before turning back. Crystal pools is a place to go during the summer. Crystal Pools is about a 15km drive from Gordons bay and is located between Gordons bay and Coolbay. Well that is at least where you park your car. Then the walk is about 1 hour into the mountains. When we went there, there was a woman who’s bag got stolen by baboons so that is one thing to look out for.
Crystal pools as you can see on the photo is a brilliant place after that long walk. It feels like a oasis in the middle of a dessert when you finally get there. Many people have jumped from these rocks but I have to say its not safe, many have died doing so. Past this pools you can go up into the mountain where you can see the best views of probably most of Cape Town and Helderberg area.
Anyway Crystal pools is a great place to go in the summer if you are close to Gordons Bay, Helderberg or Cape Town.

Club Mykonos is located in Langebaan on the West Coast if I am correct. When you are in Langebaan you feel like you are in another country. Maybe greece or somewhere in the Mediterranean. Club Mykonos is one of my favourite holiday destinations in South Africa. So many things to do, and the views are magnificant. Club Mykonos and Langebaan itself also has some of the best accommodation around. Its also a great place if you love photography.
Langebaan is about 1 1/2 hours drive from Cape Town and is on the way to Saldanha.

I think people really underestimate the beauty of Grabouw. Grabouw is a small town on the way to the Overberg close to Somerset West. Sure it takes about 1 minute to drive past grabouw on the N2 but if you turn off and start exploring you will see the most amazing photographic views of Grabouw you might never of thought existed. Grabouw is still a hidden beauty with apple farms and green fields. Grabouw is also bigger than most people think. Whenever you are on your way to Somerset West or drive past Grabouw it really is worth a stop. Grabouw recently builded a mall. The mall is located as soon as you enter Grabouw from the N2 coming from Somerset West on the way to Houw Hoek.

As nice as Greyton is the surrounding areas are really dry and dusty. Greyton is one of the most beautiful towns in South Africa and one can understand why. The road to get there is long and dry. There are no towns except a small town that one can no one can move to. (forgot the name).
There are probably faster ways to get to Riviersonderend From Greyton but this turns out to be the most scenic off them all. We even spotted a fire that was consuming a farm on this road. Whereas the usual N2 past Caledon, is well the N2. Caledon however is worth a stop but I will get to that later.

This is the pond or dam int he botanical gardens in Caledon. Great place for photography as you can see. It was a real break to get away from the Helderberg photography and photograph something else for a turn. This was taken on a road trip to Greyton.
