These two photographs according to me is the two best views of the sea and the two best places to watch the sunset in Helderberg, Cape Town.

The first one is in the Strand almost as the view of the beach from the road ends and you get the Strand lifeguards just after that. I threw in a bit of photography here trying to get the tree in as well.

The second photo is in Gordons Bay. The chair close to Gordons Bay harbour and Bikini Beach as the road ends leading to the Nun pool. Nonne poel in Afrikaans.

From that bench you can see right from Gordons Bay to Stellenbosch and Cape Town. You can also see the backside of Table Mountain and the other side of Clifton and Camps Bay.

If you look closely and on a clear day you can also see fish hoek and kommetjie.

The Hottentots Holland or Helderberg Mountains is where this signal station is located. Its been there for years and was probably used for SABC or radio stations. The fact that this station is here shows that this mountain has the best views and is worth a climb or walk up the road. Althought the road leading to the Signal station is closed you can still walk up the mountain to get the best views of Cape Town, Helderberg and whatever is on the other side.

This photograph was taken in Gordons Bay looking at the Helderberg Mountains. I still dont know if that is fog that was over the Helderberg area but when taking photos in Somerset West they came out all misty.

The waves was massive at Gordons Bay and the air was cold, but still there was no wind to make the air nice and clear for a great day of photography.

I have been living here most of my life but i dont know what this beach is called. Its Gordons Bay’s main beach, close to all the shop and also close to Harbour Island. This beach is usually not so busy except for summer holidays when the people from all over come and fill up the shops and accommodation in Helderberg. Then there is no parking.

Anyway this photograph was taken at high water when the beach was entirely covered in water.

Anyway. This photograph was taken on thursday while standing in the friday traffic, or so I thought.

I like the colours of autumn. Well summer is better and here in Helderberg one can take much better photos in the summer.

This winter is getting really long and boring. But one should not wich it over since the average person only sees about 70 winters in their lifetime.

Anyway back to the photograph.

This is strand beach when its a bit misty. Almost at the end close to the pipe. The pipe the biggest surfing spot here in the Helderberg area. On a nice day in the summer you have to book your wave otherwise you float in queues for the next big one. Just joking, but in summer this place is crowded.

I know its very unprofessional to post blurry photos but i guess you can only see this one blur if you look very close. This is the hill in Somerset West at Radloff park. This used to be the most beautiful and green hill, although you can see it in this photo. But now with all the houses on the right side its just become another hill in Somerset West. Although I would also like to live there.

I guess I am bored, posting photos this time of night.

Its understandable to figure out why they had to redo the harbour in Gordons Bay. The waves in recent times have grown bigger in Falsebay despite people claiming otherwise. The other day the waves was so big on Bikini beach that they broke against the wall at the end of the beach. That means they went right over the beach and basically broke into the road. That was the first time I have seen that.

Gordons Bay is also a great surfing spot here in the Helderberg and now and then there are these swells that come in and people come from far to catch a surf. Personally I dont surf in Gordons bay because I have seen some nasty sharks around here. There are also dangerous rocks. As a longboarder I am really not in the surfing idea for the rush of it but rather for relaxing.

Helderberg and especially Strand Beach as well as Bikini beach in Gordons Bay has some of the best sunsets in the world. This specific photo was not taken at sunset but at late afternoon. Usually one can see Table Mountain in Cape Town here but because of the mist on the sea you cant see it. Helderberg is one of the best places in the world for photography and my favourite place to do photography.

When the clouds are like this you usually have these dreamy landscapes where you really dont know where to look because there are so many things that are great to take photographs of.

The summer times are the best times to come to Helderberg and especially to swim here at Strand beach. Strand beach is a 5k stretch of beach, most parts of the beach you can swim. There is also a part for surfing and other activities. During the summer the accommodation in Helderberg is full and most people come here especially for the beaches and the relaxed environment.

Strand Beach is one of 3 beaches in Helderberg. The other two being in Gordons bay. One is bikini beach and the other one is the small beach close to Harbour Island.
