The easiest way to climb Helderberg is not from Helderberg Nature Reserve but from Stellenbosch. Going from Stellenbosch side is a long walk uphill whereas Helderberg Nature Reserve is way longer but its got a better view. Who cares about the view though once you are up there. Every year many people make it to the top of Helderberg and you can only see some of the great photos on Google earth. But to stand there yourself is really different. You feel like you are on top of the world. Climbing Helderberg from Stellenbosch side will also take you through some farms. If you are on the top path on Helderberg you can continue to the Hottentots Holland mountains, where you will be able to walk to Jonkershoek if you have the guts. I still need to try that.
