Finding the right domain name

Sometimes you go through 50 domains, thinking each one is the best, spending a lot of money on buying and then decide it’s not the correct domain for you. So how do you choose what is the correct domain for you? I think there is two options:

1 Choose a domain that you can use for anything.

If you can find a domain that you can use for anything, that is not stuck to a certain niche you might be halfway but if you can find a domain that you can use anything on and your purpose is to eventually have many sites you need a short domain that you can put subdomains on, remember search engines sees subdomains as a website on it’s own. So if you can get a nice short .com or .net which you can add a lot of subdomains to, that might be the best option.

2 What is the purpose of the domain? What is the domain for?

If the domain is for niche blogging you are way better of getting a name, even if it’s a bit on the longside but has the niche in the name of the domain, than just getting any domain but if you have a site like number 1 of this post you might not need a name after all for you niche blog, just use a subdomain.

How will people find your site?

If you plan to use search engines as your main source of traffic you need not to worry about weird spelled domain names. Instead if you have good content you will get the traffic wished for.

There is hundreds of factors when choosing a domain name but I just wanted to share these two.
