You might think what? A review of a stupid Linux text editor? But in fact Gedit is not just a stupid Linux text editor. Its way more than just that.
You should really explore your programs in Linux. They have great features that are sometimes just tucked away from the eye. You need to dig deeper. Its not like Windows what you see is what you get type of thing.
The thing that seperates Gedit from others like notepad for windows is the small functions it has built in. Functions that are very useful.
Let me show you.
Ln “line number”
Many times when editing files or themes you get a error for example saying “error on line 471″. So you go to notedpad and you search the word only to realise that the words in the error seems to be everywhere. So you need your professional tools like Dreamweaver to sort out a small problem that would of taken you 1 minute in Gedit. Gedit shows you on what line you are busy working on. See below

So if the error is on line 471 just go dont till you see Ln471 in the bottom there. You can also click on search and go to line 471 and that will take you straight to the line with the error. That’s it. You can now fix your error. But there is something greater than just that. If you click on edit and on prefrences, you can make the line numbers to show on the left side of the screen.

Spelling.
You can let Gedit check your spelling by clicking on Tools and Autocheck spelling. or you can leave it till you are finished typing your article and then click on Tools and then Check spelling. I prefer the Autocheck but if the red lines distracts you switch it off.
Highlight mode.
I know a bit of Html and a bit of CSS but I guess a screenshot will do better here.

Gedit allows you to check what form you are typing in. Its great for fixing errors and making css as well as html. Also another 100 other functions which of I dont know what half of them are but I am sure they are useful. I also see javascript format there for those people that know javascript.
I sometimes find people asking what to use in linux when editing css. I think Gedit fits the job great.
Sidepane
Gedit allows you to edit multiple documents at once using the sidepane. You can access the sidepane through “View” and then “Sidepane”.

Document statistics.
You know when you type a paid article and you must type a certain amount of words? Well with gedit it counts your words and you can access that and keep an eye on how far you are with your article. How better to explain it than with this screenshot.

Preferences
With Gedit you have so many setting you can choose from. I have read a lot about featured txt editors but I am surprised that no one is mentioning this txt editor. Instead of typing all the functions I have decided to post a few screenshot here of the preferences.
