Dont get me wrong here. What they did was illegal. But reading the group on Facebook I see lots of cops writing that they love their job and would do anything to uphold the law without being the criminals themselves. There are good police in South Africa that would protect you and help you. I dont know how many there are, but they are out there. Now these police are proud to be protecting the country.
Now when something like this happens where a bunch of over excited police break the law and hurt people, they give ALL the police of South Africa a bad name. And I think this lets those who still abide by the law and those who still are the real police feel like they are being treated unfairly.
But the way people see it is like this:
If you have 99 pigs in a barn, you would call it a pig barn. But if there is one sheep in there, you still would call it a pig barn because one sheep does not have enough influence on you to call it something else.
Last night I was driving to the shop to get some milk. There was a cop van driving past me. They probably were decent police but because of what happened in Stellenbosch it still let the hair on my back stand up just seeing them. What they did in Stellenbosch puts fear in the people of South Africa. Not fear of criminals but fear of police.
