Often when driving from place to place in the middle of South Africa, especially from Cape Town to Bloemfontein you will notice that there is only fields and fields of empty patches and grass growing, not much of a view. Then when look further you will also often see roads turning off and going to now where really. But the day you take one of those roads you might just find the most beautiful little towns of South Africa.
That is what happened to us and that is how we discovered the beautiful town of Philipolis. The town is named after phillip in the bible as I understand it and was established mid 1800’s. The main feature in the town is probably the church although most people visit the Jail which now is a museum. The buildings and the entire place makes you feel almost as if you are back in history.
Philipolis is one of the most beautiful places in South Africa and a favourite of our recent road trip around South Africa.
Philipolis is located in the Transvaal.
