South Africans must be the only people in the world vulnerable enough to fall for a stupid idea like local bandwidth. Either you have internet or you dont. Sure you can pirate some movies and sofware “locally” but that does not help people running businesses and especially websites that is hosted in other countries. They cant be hosted here because telkom would rip the living crap out of anyone trying to run a decent server with a few hundred thousands hits a day.
Telkom’s non existent broadband sucks. A few days ago they also said that people that go over the imaginary “local” limit would be billed for the bandwidth used. The big leech that Telkom is wants to sucks the country even drier.
I dont know if you watched Carte Blanche last night about Google coming or being in South Africa. I bet you they have to build their own lines or something to be connected.
For me running my sites is a real hassle. All because of Telkom. I dont have Telkom anymore and now I can finally do some work but the company and every other company is still depended on the 3000 year old line going under the sea.
