Record breaking 1445 earthquakes in one month in Christchurch, New Zealand

What is causing the earthquakes beneath New Zealand? Well the theories are almost as many as the earthquakes which now stands at 1445 earthquakes in just one month. That is either the biggest earthquake swarm we and most other people have heard of or something bigger like one of the theories for the earthquakes, a volcano brewing beneath New Zealand’s city of Christchurch.

Aftershocks? Not likely that there would be that many aftershocks and that it would last that long.

Just in the last day there was 13 earthquakes and it would most likely continue, all of them ranged above the 2 magnitude on the Richter scale.

So far the biggest earthquake happened on the day it all started, one month ago on 4 September and since then it has not stopped. The 7.1 magnitude earthquake on the 4th of September caused a lot of damage.

Houses, sewers, gas lines and most of the city of Christchurch was disrupted and was followed by a state of emergency. That followed by evacuations. The army was also deployed and all schools were closed.

The earthquake was followed by 63 massive aftershocks within a 48 hour period, they ranged all close to the 5 magnitude range and the earthquakes continue until today, 1 month later.
