Cape Town, South Africa – The Transnet strike by the South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (SATAWU) just got bigger with the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) joining in the strike action.
Prasa will strike from Monday, this coming Monday they too will down their tools and join a crippling strike that already crippled the country’s ports.
When Prasa joins it will cripple the country’s train services causing as many as two million people to be stuck without transport. While Transnet workers want a 15% increase Transnet is only offering 11% but Prasa wants a 16% increase in wages.
The reason why so many people might be without transport from Monday on is because Metrorail will be affected.
Prasa operators consists out of Metrorail, Autopax and Shosholoza
