I retract my previous comment about our president. I was duped just as he was trying to fool the rest of this country making us believe he was asking what to do with the scorpions to cover his back. Where the ANC have already decided on their fate.
Democratic Alliance parliamentary leader Sandra Botha told Mbeki that his “oblique reference to the future functioning and location of the Directorate of Special Operations was meant to muddy rather than clarify this all-important issue.
“For, if you really intended taking the South African public into your confidence, you would have had to admit that the decision to scrap the Scorpions had already been made for the government by the ANC.
“The concern of the people of SA is both real and justified: who is going to lead the fight against corruption, especially considering that the ANC’s chief decision making body, the NEC, is made up so substantially of individuals who are either suspected, or who have already been convicted, of crimes — most of which relate to fraud?”
She concluded by giving a scathing list of the failures of Mbeki’s government and said SA needed a clean slate and Parliament should dissolve itself to force an early election.

I have almost read all news I could find on this topic and I am still stumped. THIS IS NOT IN THE BEST INTEREST OF OUR NATION! What are they thinking? Do they really think they are fooling anyone? It is as plain as day why they want to get rid of the scorpions, it’s because the scorpions do not care what position and power a criminal holds a criminal stays a criminal even if he sits in parlaiment. The people doesn’t want this they don’t want the scorpions dissolved they are a integral part of our country. It would be as if england closing their special forces. It’s just not done. The country needs objective investigators to keep the politicians in check. No one is above the law they cannot make the law suite them it would bring disgrace to this country. Who will keep the ANC in check now letting them understand they are not the rulers of this country this is a democracy the country belongs to the people! We as citizens born Africans should not stand for this. There aren’t many other choices to follow but I believe this country needs a change. We need to elect another party to lead us. I cannot see any other way until then the ANC will keep being bullies and run this country into the ground. And all their talk of freedom and all that people have fought for will be for nothing. We would just have gone from one oppression to the other. At least in the apartheid it was obvious what the government was doing. The ANC in the other hand is trying to pull the wool over our eyes.

What you say is true but you have to convince an awful lot of people of this before it could possibly have any effect on the ANC. The problem here, as I see it, is that the majority of the ruling party is far too great. It is so great in fact that there is no opposition to it in any form. The so-called opposition parties might as well be speaking to brick walls. Even if these guys could somehow all join together they would still not be able to influence the ANC. Again, my humble opinion, the Helen Zillers, the Buthelezis and the like are all just wasting their time. The only change that could come South Africa’s way (politically speaking) is if the alliance between the ANC, Cosatu and the SACP were to break down. Then, and only then, can there be any talk of real political opposition in this country. I know it sounds terrible, but that is the situation as I see it.
