Why are the Reitz 4 such a big deal?

Can anyone explain to me in a country where crime is rampant, the main news on for the day is 4 boys who made a 'comedic' video for their university debate almost two years ago. Yes they made fun of the black cleaners but at the time these cleaners did not see anything wrong with it they seemed to have fun during the whole thing. At one point the boys make as if they urinate on something they gave the black workers to eat. Personally I think that part was sick and the whole thing was done in poor taste but they did not force those people to participate.

No one was harmed, injured or humiliated on purpose. These boys have shown remorse and has apologized but still it makes news, why? When only yesterday I heard of a small girl who was raped, sodomized then murdered by two men. One who was a family friend he even 'helped' look for her when she was reported missing. Why didn't this little coloured girls murder make the televised news? Was this 7 year olds life inferior to that of race issues. They are making as if these four boys committed the 'ultimate' crime and should be punished accordingly.

This is just typical of how things work today if it does not carry any political importance it's not news worthy. South Africa is overrun with violent crime and what was last nights featured news - the Reitz Four.
