Did you know that you might get 100’s of inbound links to your blog and all your link begging and search for places to put your link might be all worth nothing. All the hard work and it wont help. Now that will suck wont it.

But the fact is, that has happened to me in my blogging many times. I get so carried away I dont focus how I get inbound links. For example if someone asks me what to use and where to link I’d just say the same thing with the same url without actually thinking about it.

There is a relevant way to get backlinks and there is a irrelevant way with backlinks. Only the links that are relevant will count towards your search engine “points”.

Let me explain:

Linking to fromtheold.com using the word “blogging” will not help my blog at all if I dont have “blogging” in my Titles on my front page, my tagline, or my url. That is because Google has obviously picked up over the years that people get rated for certain keywords that dont exist in their blogs. Even thought you are generally blogging about that topic, if you dont have the keywords you wont be rated for it.

So a relevant way of linking would be:

I have a url fromtheold.com/blogging, so if I use that as my link url and I use “blogging” as the keyword to link to me, it will work. Because at the url fromtheold.com/blogging you have the keyword used to link to me in the url and in the actual content of the page. So to be rated for that keyword on search engines I have the relevant words to match the Anchor text as other people call it.
