So Eskom sucks, time to find another way to get electricity January 28th, 2008
I have decided to come independent of Eskom. This should be interesting. The first thing I would do is find a way to get my laptop to run without electricity. Then the big thing. But the worst thing I think about the power cuts is that when the power goes out, even though it comes back on the internet stays off for some time after. Because the electricity trips some other junk as well. It just sucks. I think even if you have your entire house going from other sources than Eskom you still wont get internet if you have some local wireless. Better use the crappy old toilet seat called Telkom. Yep that will get me reaal far.
Interesting… It would still be cool to have a house independent of Eskom though.

I didn’t get this. They’ve got the same problem with electricity where I live (I’m a S. African expat in the Middle East), and my connection is restored as soon as the power is back on (usually, almost every building has its own private generator which kicks in automatically when there is a power cut — easy to set up, you can do it with a conductor).
