One of the uses for the pliers is the obvious, whatever you can use a plier for. The pliers on the knife are pretty strong. The teeth on the pliers make it a great tool for gripping something. The spring can also be replaced.
The second function of the pliers on the swiss army knife is the wire stripper which you can see in the image below. You can use this as a wire stripper but also a wire cutter. You can see the part i am talking about left of the swivel.
Below is the part of the pliers you can use as a clamp or to squash wires and bend wires. This can be used to also strip wires as well as shape and bend small metal objects.
