Svalbard

Svalbard is located in the Arctic Ocean a few hundred kilometers of Norway and falls under the territory of Norway. Svalbard consists out of three islands, they are Spitsbergen, Bear Island and Hopen. The main town or largest settlement is Longyearbyen.

Most people in Svalbard can speak English but the official language is Norwegian and some parts speak Russian.

 

Earth Quakes

Svalbard frequently gets major earth quakes, this February and last February there was earthquakes that go past the 6 point mark on the Richter scale. Although the strongest ever earthquake recorded in the area was 6.5 points on the Richter scale
