Kleinmond Bridge at the lagoon

September 30, 2008 by evl

IMG_8902.JPG As a child I can remember running over this very bridge every day. Kleinmond was one of the best holiday accommodations in South Africa. This particular bridge is made out of recycled plastic made to looks like wood.

Sunset on Strand beach in Helderberg

September 6, 2008 by evl

It is said that Helderberg and Falsebay have some of the best sunsets in the world. With a view like this its sometimes easy to believe. In Gordons bay there is a lot of accommodation that has a view like this. From this side Table Mountain does not look as much table as from Blougbergstrand. But its still great to watch the sunset from Strand beach in Helderberg.

Cederberg mountains in Summer

July 28, 2008 by evl

This is close to sunset in the middle of summer on the Cederberg Mountains. Most people go to the Cederberg in the winter but can also get packed in the summer. During the summer times it can get real hot in the Cederberg.

If you like walking and hiking the Cederberg Mountains is a place you might want to consider when going camping. Accommodation can be found just about every 50km or so.

The rivers in the Cederberg mountain can be used as drinking water its so clear. Although its not always recommended. The Cederberg is one place I would not mind to live at.

There are many trials leading through the mountains and there are some great walking spots. Some the best in South Africa.

The other beach in Gordons Bay

July 21, 2008 by evl

I have been living here most of my life but i dont know what this beach is called. Its Gordons Bay's main beach, close to all the shop and also close to Harbour Island. This beach is usually not so busy except for summer holidays when the people from all over come and fill up the shops and accommodation in Helderberg. Then there is no parking.

Anyway this photograph was taken at high water when the beach was entirely covered in water.

Plan before you go and stay a few days

July 16, 2008 by evl

The best part of travel should be to plan. If you dont plan you will end up staying in places late at night and driving all day to find a place.

On a recent roadtrip we discovered that planning is one of the most important aspects to travel in luxury, well not luxury but at least you know where you are going to stay the night.

What happened to us, we did not plan where we were going to stay or we did not have accommodation and we just drove all day and when it was night we had the 3 hour issue of finding a nice place to stay.

The best way to travel South Africa

July 16, 2008 by evl

I would say the best way to travel South Africa is in your own form of accommodation like a motorhome or a land rover. Especially a land rover because then you would get to see places in South Africa you cant see with a normal car.

For instance a few days ago we went to the Drakensberge and also Cathedral Peak. As you go in the entrance to Cathedral Peak you will see a road which leads somewhere, That somewhere we could not explore because of the limit ways of travel we have, hence a car. If we have a land rover or 4x4 we might of seen something out of the ordinary.

Also accommodation in South Africa can be expensive as well as the petrol but if you have a nice 4x4 or motorhome you could sleep in there and that would make up for the money you spend on the petrol. So the best way to travel South Africa is in something you can sleep like a motorhome.

River outside of Greyton

June 20, 2008 by evl

This river used to be full. I dont know if there is a drought now or if its just the time of year but a few years ago this river used to be a strong river, as a child I can remember the snakes that used to cross the river while swimming in the river. The river is just outside Greyton, not entirely it might actually be in Greyton but I guess you get the picture. This is the same river that continues to Riviersonderend if I am correct. When you drive on the gravel road on the way to Riviersonderend (the road to also get to George and Knysna) you will see a green path for some of the way on the gravel road. This is the river you are seeing. For miles there are just the bare dusty roads but the green strip stands out. Greyton is a great place for a holiday and there are also some great places to stay and accommodation. There are things to do like horseback riding and exploring nature. There is also a big nature reserve and for those that want more adventure you can climb the mountain.

South Africans going to Enlgand. What to take with.

June 20, 2008 by evl

When we went to the UK we thought we'd take everything with, just in case. A friend of mine had 9 pairs of shoes. My baggage alone was about 50kg. We took clothes for a year and almost everything we could think of. This was a strange thing to do but inexperienced who knew better? Clothes in the UK is cheaper than in South Africa. Even leather clothing. I got a Leather jacket in London for a tenth of the price one can find one in South Africa. Technology is cheaper as well. You can pick up a working phone for 10pounds or less. The point I am making is that when you go to England dont take luggage. Only one bag with a few stuff will do. Maybe a toothbrush etc. But most important take money. Lots of it. Accommodation in England and especially in London is not that cheap but there are places where you can stay for 20 pounds or so a night per person but its best to go prepared.
