I have complained about DSTV and their ads many times but of late they have become even more annoying.
90% of the ads on DSTV is about DSTV? Does that make any sense, I am already paying to watch 'quality' TV and I get bombarded by ads. I cannot understand why they are so in your face if you already bought the product. Think logically does this make sense? All they are doing is making me annoyed. We like discovery channel and we specifically like the survivor programs, while we watch the survivor program they interrupt the program to advertise the very program we are trying to watch!! Another thing is we are paying a lot of money monthly to watch 'decent' programs. Why are there so many ads? Are they not charging enough from us to afford to broadcast or are they just greedy? I used to watch open time and could always understand the amount of ads there but when it was discontinued the ads increased?
Still not making sense, well how about this one: Why are the ads always louder than the programs? I read on one forum of a guy who questioned Multichoice about this and they told him it was out of their control. What?! Wait a minute how can the sound be out of their control that is just an half arsed excuse if you ask me.
How about the amount of ads. I personally like the home channels when it's just me watching tv. And my favorite show is Peter Perfect. Like most make-over programs they have a reveal. This is how it goes: the persons who need help with their business tells their story - ADS - Peter arrives they repeat their story and he asks couple of questions says he will come back the next day - ADS - Peter arrives and they clean up shop - ADS - they start make over - ADS - they reveal the people themselves - ADS - then they reveal the shop.
Honestly every show runs like this and believe me these aren't little ads and during each commercial break they show 'Fab Life with Kamora' which is annoying show of a rich woman is full of herself. Not even products they are just repeats of other shows. Sometimes they even show little make up tips which takes up time. They give 5 commercial breaks during this one particular show. That is unnecessary seeing as I am already paying to watch it.
It is like buying a DVD and in the middle of the movie they have a commercial break. Imagine that they people would be really upset, demanding refunds. So why do Multichoice think it is okay to interrupt programmed we already paid to watch with commercials? If it was free I would understand but this is a rip off. But living in this lovely country we do not have much choice, do we? If we want to watch tv we would have to endure this because they have a total monopoly on the market. They repeat shows constantly, most of the films are old, they bombard us with ads, they lack control over the volume. I would still watch it and they know it. I like watching tv my family likes watching tv. That is where the problem lies they can take advantage of that fact knowing we would endure the ads to be able to watch Discovery channel or what ever your preference.
Here is a tip the BBC channels has the least commercials except for the movie channels. Even the news has ads these days. E! entertainment has the most annoying ads. Use the mute button it would spare you a lot of headaches.
Or we all could boycott Multichoice but honestly I don't think I would last 2 days :)
