Kleinmond Bridge at the lagoon

September 30, 2008 by evl

IMG_8902.JPG As a child I can remember running over this very bridge every day. Kleinmond was one of the best holiday accommodations in South Africa. This particular bridge is made out of recycled plastic made to looks like wood.

Green, up in Somerset West

There are so many place to do photography between Somerset West and Stellenbosch. This was taken up in Somerset West if you go up the road at the Lord Charles Hotel in Somerset West and you go under the bridge on the top. There is a mysterious road right next to these trees but I have not driven up there.

I am a explorer as well so if there is a road with no signs I explore.

Crystal Pools waterfall

Crystal Pools is about 15 km from Gordons Bay and about 15 Km from Coolbay. Crystal Pools is a long walk but you have to park at the bridge just opposite kogelbaai or kogelbay. Going there in the summer is another story. Its gets really hot and the walk to crystal pools is quite far.

There are also baboons and the time we were there a lady got her bag grabbed by a baboon and they had a feast with her thing in it. The walk to Crystal Pools is also fun since there are many places on the road to the pools itself where one can swim. While the pool itself is very deep one should not jump off the cliffs into the water since its dangerous and many people have died doing so.

The water is clear but some parts are very deep and also scary. Crystal Pools is a great place to go and relax for the day. Or to take a hike up the mountain. The views are brilliant and the walk is great for doing photography. On the way to Crystal Pools you can also see Cape Town, Table mountain and Fish hoek from a distance.

Bridge at Crystal Pools close to Gordons bay looking in the direction of Cape Town and Fishhoek

There are two paths to Crystal pools but just for a short way until they join. One is above the mountain and that one joins the other path then. This is the top of the bridge, the bridge I blogged about on the previews photo. Here you can see where the see meets the river. Also a bit of Cape Town and Fishhoek in the background there.

The Bridge between Coolbay and Gordons Bay

May 16, 2008 by evl

The bridge on the way to Crystal pools between Coolbay and Gordons bay. If you stand on the bridge you get to see how clear this water is. A great place to cool down and have a swim. You have to pay now to get in there because, I guess they want to reserve the nature. Might be for a good cause I dont know. There is a lot of baboons around here, they usually walk in groups and have ripped the backpacks from people, but they are not that dangerous. As long as you stay away from them. When we went to crystal pools a baboon ripped a backpack from a woman's back and teared it appart. Freaky stuff. Still the best photos can be taken here. On a hot to day walking to Coolbay feels like 10's of km's but its just about 5km from the brigde if I am correct.

Kleinmond Lagoon, bridge and beach landscape photograph

May 1, 2008 by evl

Kleinmond used to be a big holiday destination and it probably still is. With Accommodation right on the beach as you can see in this photo in the background, there used to be a camping site I dont know if it still is there. We used to camp there when it was still safe to camp in South Africa. Now days people just go to guest houses. Kleinmond has a lot of restaurants and great places to eat. There is a Spar and also a "Friendly" store. At hight tide the water comes over the beach and fills the lagoon with new water. There also used to be a place where you can rent boats to go on the lagoon but I dont know if it still is there.

Waves coming over Strand beach wall. Across the hotel and other accommodation. Helderberg

April 16, 2008 by evl

Apparently this wall is no more. I have not driven past this point in a few days but here you can see the rising sea levels because of global warming I believe coming over the walls of Strand beach. The hotel and other accommodation is jsut across the road. I wonder what would happen in a few years if the water keeps on rising. Anyway I really like action / motion photography. Whatever you call it. When something is moving through the air or something is happening that you can only get it to stand still with a photograph. I guess when winter comes Helderberg will be wet again, like last year's flooding of broadway road in the Strand. And in Somerset West under the bridge close to the N2. That got filled up as well.
