Cape Winelands of South Africa

Some does not realise the large wine industry of South Africa that dates back to when the first white setlers arrived here in the beautiful Western Cape. The thing I like the most is that it's not just about the wine. There are so much to see and learn and most of all to enjoy. From Gourmet food in luxury spa's to bush camping in the wild. There are also many historical and art museums where you could strol at leasure. For the more adventurist you could go hicking in one of the most beautiful mountains in the world and even go diving with white sharks before spending the rest of your day sipping on one of our famous CaberCabernet sauvignon. The western cape also sports some of the most popular venues for weddings to business, in the world. I believe the thing that also makes the Cape Winelands so popular is the fact that we have some of the best wines in the world but also the most affordable. You do not need to be a conusiour with a large bank balance to go on a wine tasting tour or holiday, almost anyone can enjoy the winelands.

There is two main routes through the Cape winelands and that is the Cape Karoo Route and the Route 62.

Route 62

Is one of the main tourist routes in South Africa. It runs from Cape Town through Oudsthoorn,Garden Route to Port Elizabeth technically it's just a shorter and more scenic route than on the N2, which is the highway from Cape Town to Durban. The route spands a distance of 850 km. On this route there are many famous wine tasting spots but it has so much more to offer than that. There is Montagu with it's natural warm water springs and thermal baths. There is also many small towns along the road each with it's on unique beauty and something to do. Some have mountains others are historical while some have horse trails that will delight anyone. Oudsthoorn is one of the towns in South Africa with the most to see and do. Being the biggest Ostrich breeding place for South Africa with many farms where tourist can go see them and even ride one if you like. There is also the  Cango Caves with the bush man drawings and sometimes plays are done inside the cave. Oudsthoorn has so much to offer deffinetely a place to stop on route. There are main towns that make up the wine route which is Wellington, Tulbagh, Worcester, Robertson If you are after purely just to taste wine stick to those. Even though all for of them are packed with other things to see and do.

Cape Karoo Route

The Cape Karoo Route is very similar to route 62. Actually you have to be on the route 62 to reach most of the Karoo Route so it's not surprising. The main towns in the Karoo toute is Montagu, Barrydale, Ladysmith, Calitzdorp, Oudtshoorn and De rust. The main diffiernse in the two routes is that the Karoo is more inland and the scenery is much more peacefull and a slower pace. Route 62 is exciting full of things to see from town to town where the Karoo has it's own Beauty. I would say it's rather a tranqual place to travel the pace is slower there's none of the big town noices only lovely fields mountains and an abundanse of wine cellars. And if you would like a change in pace it's as easy as changing lanes. But if you are serious about your wine and brandy you would enjoy this route a lot.

Cholera is out of control in South Africa

December 23, 2008 by evl

So Zimbabwe has totally failed already. No clean drinking water and no food, people eating even the buried insects they manage to bring to the surface while scratching through the sand.

Where a bread is something you buy on the blackmarket. The entire world has failed the people of Zimbabwe and the worst of offenders is South Africa and Mbeki for giving the support to Mugabe he needed while he was supposed to moderate talks.

Thousands of people have crossed the rivers of South Africa, coming from Zimbabwe they flow over the borders and through the river for safety. Not all come here for safety, as you probably know the Cholera crises is now real bad in South Africa as well. Almost 900 people in Limpopo have the disease and cholera has also spread to Vhembe, Pietersburg and Louis Trichardt.

Most South African bloggers are from Cape Town

December 7, 2008 by evl

That's strange. I would not of thought that most bloggers would be from Cape Town that blog and live in South Africa. My guess would of been Johannesburg. According to "Sake 24" something like 88% come from Cape Town.

I guess its called the laid back city for a reason but this is also the silicon valley of South Africa.

Cape Town as far as I know also has the best internet connections and most people that live here are not obsessed with work. At least the ones that I know.

Interesting.

Dam in Sutherland - Northern Cape

December 4, 2008 by evl

Not entirely sure if Sutherland is in the Northern Cape but this dam is located just outside the town on a very rough gravel or ground road. We discovered it by accident when we went for a road trip while having a holiday in Sutherland and star watching.

It's really dry over there and it might look hot but it gets cold there in fact Sutherland is one of the coldest places in South Africa in winter times.

Rocks on Camps Bay beach

Camps bay beach is probably one of the most photographic beaches as well as one of the most beautiful beaches in South Africa. There are these huge boulders everywhere that you dont really find at other beaches in the Western Cape. The water is crystal clear and the view is great.
