How to lose a customer

The other day I went to a certain computer store in Somerset Mall where I planned to buy a iMac computer. As I marched into the store I was swarmed with sales men trying to convince me to buy the iMac. The thing is I had already decide to buy the iMac but I listened anyway what they had to say.

The previous day another guy helped me and also explained to me what the benefits are of using a iMac above a normal computer. Before he spoke to me I was convinced I needed a iMac already but as usual I wanted to hear what he had to say.

So now there are two sales people thinking they have convinced me to buy the iMac. When I finally bought the thing I had the sales person draw me into the corner to tell me that it was his sale after all, he introduced me to the iMac. Seeing the bitching and moaning of his fellow workers I could smell there was a big fight behind the scenes about who gets the commission.

So here is what they did and how I saw it in simple terms with a bit of repeating myself:

I walk into the shop, straight to the Macs, knowing that they cost the same there as in the Apple Mac store in Cape Town , decided to buy one. Not 5 minutes goes by and I am involved in the salesmen politics of who sold the iMac to me and who gets the cash.

After standing there for a few minutes, seeing sales people having a barney about who’s it is, they take me in a corner and try to convince me who it was the made me buy the iMac. Finally I get to pay for the iMac and the fighting continues, also by this time there is a very tense atmosphere as big as the shop is I could feel it.

So I just wanted to get out of there and not go back again after feeling like a piece of meat in the middle of a lion hunt.

If you train your salesmen, train them to make the sale and split the dough if they have to. If they have not done the entire deal train them to sort it out behind the curtains, where no one can see.

I have spent over R50k in the last view years at that shop and they wont see me again if I can help it. They have successfully lost a client.

How to get advertisers for your website or blog

Getting advertisers for a site is never easy but by doing certain things you can get those advertisers interested in your site. It takes a lot of work to keep people interested in a site but there is something better than keeping people interested and that is by alway being on the first page of a google search. Or any other search engine. Targetting certain words on search engines or keyword targetting is the easiest way to get people to your site.
Technically there are a few things you need to make it easier or more attractive for advertisers to advertise on your site.

Traffic
Traffic is the most important part of any website that wants to make money on the internet and getting the Advertiser’s attention you have to show them that you actually get traffic by showing your stats somewhere.

Search Engine Optimization
Being rated high for a search term that there are many advertisers for would also look more appealing for advertisers since they know if people come to your site through that certain keyword the chances are bigger that the advertiser will also benefit.

Contact page
Without a contact page a blog really is incomplete. You might have all the things worked out nice but people dont really want to leave a comment somewhere to ask about advertising, they want a contact page or a email address they can contact you. Being able to contact you will also make them feel better about being able to advertise on your site because you can be contacted if there are any problems. That gives advertisers a sense of security.

Advertise page
A advertise page should be where you sell your blog’s advertising space and convince people why its a good idea to actually advertise on your blog. There you can place your Alexa rank, you PR and traffic stats to make it more inviting.

Thats about it on how to attract advertisers for your blog or website.

No damage? That game sucks

Today’s racing and driving games makes for a good play, but one thing they are still doing wrong is not giving the option to let your car get damaged. No matter how realistic a game is, if you are driving and crashing and there is no damage, the great graphics and convincing ai would just not help.

Damaging your car in a game is what makes games so exciting. That is where you take your stress out on the consoles and pc’s that you can not take it out in real life.

Just imagine having a real bad day at work, getting home and giving a few cars a crash or two will release some stress. But if they dont have damage while driving its pointless.

One person, many blogs or one blog

I have been thinking about this for long now. What is the best for one person to have? Is one big website with all your posts, or is it better to have many small websites that you split your time between. More websites would turn out more advertisers individually but one site will be easier to maintain. During the last year i have had up to 63 blogs and then turned them into one blog and then I go again a while later having many and actually making money but then when I have one blog it brings more traffic to the one.

So imagine having 100 websites and they each get 200 visitors each a day. That would be 20 000 altogether but less people would advertise because the site does not get that much traffic. But then you have one blog and you dont really get 20 000 visitors a day but you get enough to convince people to advertise on your website.

So my guess would be the one that fits you the best.
