Saving money is easier than you might think

October 7, 2008 by evl

Learning how to do things differently and becoming more eco friendly will actually help you save money. I might sound like a hippy now but if you think about it: Using natural resources Collecting food Not using chemicals etc I guess all these things might make a blog about money sound totally irrelevant but lets look closer it might sound more like a health blog or something about survival. Using natural resources Everyone needs time away from work, wheter you are a rocket scientist or a banker and the best way to start saving money is by making your own garden if you have that space. Some vegatables can grow within 1 or 2 weeks and before you know it you've saved a couple bucks. Collecting food You need excersize and hobbies, what better way than fishing or collecting things in nature that is edible. Nature is where all food comes from so why not take or make the time to go and collect things to eat. Here where we live we are fairly close to the mountain. It makes great excersize and the berries, fruit and other things you can put in your basket is plentyfull. Simple things can make you save a lot of money.

Survival fishing, Catching fish with a stick.

September 9, 2008 by evl

So you're stuck in some jungle or a place where there's a river. You are hungry and you want to eat. Here's how to catch a fish. Grab yourself a stick, we in South Africa call it a knopkierie. Its a stick with a nob on the end. Next look for some ants. Ants usually make good bait if you are in shallow water. Throw a handful of ants on the water but in reach where you can hit the water. Next you wait for the fish to come up, timing is important. As soon as the fish puts his lips over that ant, you slam as hard on the water next to him or as close to him as possible. The shockwaves will kill him or knock him silly. Jump in and try to throw him either out of the water or catch him. There you go.

Massive waves rolling in Gordons Bay

August 13, 2008 by evl

Almost summer. Tonight's sunset was brilliant. Just sucks that I could not get many photos.

Here you can see a massive wave rolling towards Harbour Island over the weekend.

The waves was massive and the weather was also nice. There was a lot of surfers while in the Strand people was fishing like there was some school of tuna or something. I dont know much about fishing as you can guess.

Fishing boat coming into Gordons Bay harbour

August 7, 2008 by evl

Had a nice day taking photographs when I spotted this fishing trawler come from far out. Seems they had a good catch. There was actually a lot of activity on the sea I have some more pictures I will post. This one just caught my eye now because of the mountain in Somerset West in the background. You dont really see the mountain with the naked eye. Its only when you zoom in that the mountains take focus like that. 4 Augustus 2008 066

Did I mention this is a photography blog as well. Well only photos of South Africa and that has to do with travel.  Here you can see a clock tower in Strand area.

The strand is around 50km from Cape Town and is a small town that originally started as a fishing village who knows when. The Strand and Helderberg is one of the most well known places for South Africans to have their holiday.

Hangklip, nice place for photography and a day out

July 28, 2008 by evl

The other day or rather a few weeks ago we went to Hangklip for some fishing. Now I cant fish. So after a few mintues I realized how beautiful Hangklip is and how nice it is to take photos there. The sky is so bright and the place is so natural. No cars, humans and the daily noise of city life.

Hangklip is a nice place for a day out. Whether you like the sea or not. Its a drive from the city life and gives you a break.

Crystal clear water in Gordons Bay

July 28, 2008 by evl

If you are not into fishing and all that stuff you might wanna grab those goggles and head down to bikini beach in Gordons Bay this summer. On some days the water is so clear you can see everything. Even when going deeper into the water you can still see clearly. A few years ago we were swimming and I had some goggles on. A shark swam passed us, well it was about 10 meters away but if the water was dirty we would not of seen it.

Its amazing some days when you sit on your surfboard, especially in the Strand you can see schools of fish swimming right under your surfboard, and the occasional dolphin and shark.

In recent years shark activity has increased here in False Bay , some say its because of the cage divers that feed the sharks while other people blame it on global warming and not enough food in the sea.
