Final South African election results about 5 hours away

The IEC said earlier that there was a about 5 hours left for the final results to be released.

There are 12 issues or complaints from parties that according to law must be resolved before tonight. (objections)

So we can expect the election results early tomorrow morning or around 12-1am.

The new upgraded IEC official election website

January 21, 2009 by evl

To start off, I was so excited to see the IEC finally have a website that I can access with my poor little browser called Firefox.

I dont know what they must of been thinking when designing that thing. That is the mother of all ugly sites, the queen of 404 errors and most horrible designed site the face of the internet has ever seen.

So they say the site can now be accessed through any browser but I beg to differ. When I load the page I get so distracted by the 1985 design may browser sense my stress and shuts the shit down.

That site is so ugly it gives Internet explorer panic attacks, I mean it was designed for internet explorer 2.0 not today's browsers.

So the boor bastard that designed the shit had his name all over twitter. I think that's a bit mean but how can he do such a thing as to design such a ugly piece of shit.

Oh hang on, its a government thing. I'm sorry.

Apparently they said they will invest 3million rand in the site. Must of gone into the booze.

here's yer screeny

South Africans should be able to vote abroad

November 22, 2008 by evl

What kind of crap is that, that South African citizens are not able to vote abroad? Criminals can vote but people who left the country because of crime but really want to come back cant vote. See they want the country to change before they do come back and how can that be possible if they have no say in matters. If they were born here they are South African and they must have the right to vote. A discussion about this topic is also busy as we speak at Constitutionally speaking So why cant they vote? The reason people outside the country cant vote is probably because the ANC passed a law quickly before the 2004 elections As a old article from 2004 rights from news24 :
Parliament adopted a controversial election bill on Friday that excludes citizens living abroad from voting in general elections next year. The Electoral Laws Amendment Bill was adopted after a last-minute change that effectively bars any South African abroad from voting in elections, expected to be held during the first half of 2004. The ruling African National Congress (ANC) supported the withdrawal of a clause to the bill, which was approved by the National Assembly's home affairs committee last Friday. The clause would have allowed special votes to students, businessmen, travellers, and citizens temporarily out of the country to vote.
Today Helen Zille met with the IEC to chat about some things and amonst the topics that came up was just this. From news24:
Democratic Alliance leader Helen Zille will lobby for the right of all South Africans living abroad to vote, at a meeting with Independent Electoral Commission head Brigalia Bam on Friday, the party said. Zille said that Section 33(1)(e) of the Electoral Act provides for South African citizens who are temporarily abroad - for purposes of a holiday, a business trip, attending a tertiary institution, or participating in an international sports event - to vote in national and provincial elections by special vote. The DA believes that the section should be extended to include South African citizens who are living abroad, many of whom intend returning. In addition, to enable these South Africans abroad to vote, it is essential for the IEC to make provision for them to register at South African embassies and consulates. This is critical if the IEC is to fulfil its constitutional mandate.

Still no news about the official election date

November 21, 2008 by evl

The general elections are coming closer, or at least I think so because there is still no official date for the general elections even though some people are claiming the ANC has the power and the IEC wont let them. Stories continue but the citizens of the country are still left in the dark about the date for the South African general elections of 2009 which would surely be one of the most interesting ones since 1994.

IEC website still broken

November 3, 2008 by evl

A few weeks ago there were reports that someone was going to sue the IEC because they only let Internet Explorer in, the rest of the browsers including all open source browsers does not work. Well the problem still remains, you can go to the site but if you are using another browser than internet explorer you will have a hard time and only get a error.
