The ANC's plan for creating jobs

March 2, 2009 by evl

The ANC released their plans today for creating jobs. It reads as this:
Over the last 15 years we have achieved significant levels of sustained economic growth. We have managed to progressively increase the rate at which jobs have been created. But despite our progress, we still face massive unemployment and widespread poverty. We need to continue to grow the economy, and make sure that the benefits of growth are shared among all South Africans. That is why the ANC has developed a clear and achievable plan that will grow the economy over the next five years and create more decent jobs. This plan includes: * a massive public investment programme, expanding and improving rail networks, public transport, port operations, dams, housing, telecommunications and energy generation; * an expanded public works programme linked to the infrastructure programme and meeting social needs with home-based case, cr

A bit of humour to start the blog off

October 1, 2008 by evl

This was sent as a memo to all the employees of a company:
From: CosmoDemonic HR Department To: Staff Re: Illness The cold and flu season is already here. So here are a few tips on how you can stay well and not miss work. Avoid other people. Stay away from your friends. If you have a spouse, do not touch them. If you have kids, get rid of them. Take a tip from the germ-phobic community and wash your hands a lot. I mean a lot. 20-30 times day. And don

Ooh!This looks fun!Desperate Housewives is my favorite tv series. They are going skip 5 years and take of from there. So exciting I love how they almost always manage to do something no one else has. I can't wait to see what has happened to everyone. I went and read about the upcoming season and don't want to spoil things but I believe there are going to be a couple of surprises.

3 different ways of blogging

May 12, 2008 by evl

When you want to make a living online there are certain things you have to consider, especially to whom you are writing. Generally I can divide it in three categories. Most of the time bloggers will deny that they blog for the first two but if you be honest you know you are doing it. I do the first two often and that is what brings me income. So here are the three ways I can divide my blog post aim. Meaning when I type or write a article I have one of these three things in mind. Blog for traffic Certain times you will have to do this. Especially when catching and having some great or breaking news. When you have breaking news you have to blog for traffic with Keywords in mind and targeting search engines. Blogging for traffic does not mean you ignore your regular readers it just means you have to do more work in getting your article out there using meta tags and keywords. Some people do this with every post which is not a bad idea but it is time consuming. Time you might not have if you have that breaking story and want to get ahead of news companies. Blog for money Writing a blog post for money does also not mean you are ignoring your readers it just means you are trying to sell or promote something. Sometimes regular readers do get annoyed when you type a article for the purpose of making money out of that article. But they have to understand, in order for you to make a living online you would have to type these articles from time to time. Blog for community Writing a community article is having only your readers in mind and only focusing on their needs. Focussing on what they want and growing your community by writing post that benefit them. After all it is your readers that keeps your blog going, without them you wont really have a blog. Writing for community should be your main focus if you want to make a name for yourself out there. People dont always want to read the above two "blog for money" and "blog for traffc". Anyway, if you aim for a brilliant post you will have traffic but please understand the traffic I am talking about in point no1 is the type of traffic you get for breaking news. Traffic that usually would not come to a blog or your blog. Last of all one I did not mention which should be the most important factor is this: Blog because you like blogging Blog because you enjoy blogging. People can clearly see when you are only blogging for money and not really enjoying what you are doing. Blogging for enjoyment is the greatest way to grow a blog. People can see you enjoy yourself and it helps you write quality articles. What better way to to grow a blog than enjoying what you are doing. Anyway feel free to add more points in the comments. 10 Things you can use to promote your site

April 30, 2008 by evl

Typed some time ago, never posted. 1. Stumbleupon www.stumbleupon.com Its not wrong to promote your site using social bookmarking utilities and websites, as long as you do not pay people to promote it more than you can do on your own. Be honest, use one account and if people like what you have stumbled they will give it a thumbs up. Some say stumbleupon give more traffic than digg.com, this may be true but there is one thing about stumbleupon that i like which is the traffic that comes from stumbleupon is more stretched out, Meaning you get traffic for longer. 2. Digg.com www.digg.com Digg is a social network where people vote stuff up and the more diggs something has the higher up it goes till it makes the frontpage. When something hits the frontpage its called the digg effect which sometimes crashes servers and gives you instant traffic, but that traffic might not last. Digg is a great way to get traffic to your site. Again use one account if you are going to digg you own articles. Dont use fake accounts because they check you IP anyway. Rather be more honest, if people like it, they will digg it up. At least it spares you the embarrassment if they dont like it. Then no one will see it. 3. Yoono Yoono is a bookmarking service. If you install the toolbar you basicly share your favourites. Like for instance, Say we bookmark our own site, and we have say hellkom.co.za as another bookmark, then when someone visits hellkom.co.za they might see you site in the toolbar if enough other people has your site bookmarked as well. 4. For bloggers Leave comments, but dont just leave any comments, leave quality comments, do it on sites that you really read. There is a rise in people making comments just to get there site on there. Thats not nice, especially those short comments that dont mean much. I used to do this until i learned its wrong. Interact with other bloggers, give feedback if someone comments on your site. 5. Write quality content You cant have a website without having some good content and images without description wont help unless you describe the images or have some good meta tags. Make sure to have unique content. Sometimes we just want to get the content out there not caring how good the articles or posts are, rather make it quality then you will keep the visitors that come from search engines. 6. Start a referrer program You can start a referrer program to get incoming links, that will raise your page rank as well. A good way to do this is get incoming links that has the same topic as your site. 7. If you have a entertainment site Start a myspace for you site. It worked for kontraband.com they have a myspace account and the traffic is coming in as you can see on their links section, myspace is one of them that brings in the most traffic. Here are the others I have not tried 8. www.mybloglog.com 9. www.rateitall.com 10. If you have a site that recently started and its kind of a social networking site, why not submit it to www.killerstartups.com.

What to do before you advertise your blog

April 30, 2008 by evl

1. Figure out what your blog is about and make it clear to others People that know you might want to read your personal stuff about your dog and your slippers. Even regular readers wont mind if something is off topic but if you advertise your blog, those people dont know you and if they cant figure out why they are visiting your site you have just lost the point in advertising. Just remember the reason you advertise your blog is to reach a goal and also get a bit of visitors as a bonus.

2. What is your goal If you dont have a goal stop right there. You dont need to advertise if you dont have a goal. Heck you dont even need to blog if you dont have a goal. But if your goal is traffic from advertising in newspapers and magazines you need to have some linkbait. You cant just advertise and write nice stuff about who you are because people dont care who you are. Your goal needs to have a few points to it. Maybe you want to increase advertisers on your blog but then you have to advertise with the advertising as the link bait. Something like: "Get your site seen by thousands of whatever people in your niche." Get the picture? Not having a goal and advertising with nothing to reach will in the first place not be useful and will show you no results. I guess you should get the drift by now.

3. Show your best posts on the front page All your posts might not be that great, maybe like all my posts arent great but if you want to advertise make sure you can put your best posts on the front page. If you cant then you can always get a magazine theme for wordpress. Most of them allow you to promote your best posts to the front page.

4. Keep at least one advertising space open You might have a great blog but if you advertise make another space for when people come to your blog. You might get some new advertisers. Mostly when people have no extra advertising space they skip asking or inquiring about advertising. Some people might disagree with this but you can leave your comment.

5. Local If you advertise local but you have a international blog, explain to people what the benefit is of advertising or visiting your blog. Display a small banner displaying the area you live in. Those who visit your blog might feel more comfortable and familiar about the fact that you feel close to them. Dont ask, this really works.

6. Contact Make sure your contact page works, if you advertise and you need people to contact you, you must provide a way other than leaving in your comments. I dont have one now but whenever advertising I make sure people can find me and know where to contact me. Well.... not where to find but where to contact.

7. Shop If you have a shop make sure people can see it and that it is part of your site and not some foreign page that looks entire different from your blog. Also get your shop ready and make it clear what you sell by advertising some products on your frontpage. This does not always work. Depends on the blog you have. There is probably tons of other things you can do but I just wanted to share these. Be sure to join the feed or leave a comment. Thanks for visiting.

Nothing will happen if you dont make it happen in blogging

April 29, 2008 by evl

nothing.jpg When starting a new blog if you dont do something nothing will happen. How will people know about your great posts and articles? Yes rss sites will help but they wont make your site grow like you want it to. So how to get loads of traffic in a short time? The answer is you have to bookmark your own site. I bookmark my own sites on social networks. Not all of them are self bookmarking friendly if you know what I mean but there are some that dont mind you submitting your own stuff and you should really use those. Sites like digg.com and reddit will just ban you but who cares the internet has great bookmarking sites, especially ones for bloggers like Sphinn has a blogging section and Bloggingzoom is made for bloggers. Sometimes people feel bad bookmarking their own sites but if you dont get your blog out there the time wont come where other people will start to bookmark your sites on social networking sites. Heck I even have my own legion of sites that I use only to promote my sites. Who cares if people say its unethical. If you have the traffic you will be smiling at the end of the day. As long as your posts are good you dont have to worry about submitting your own articles. Just dont submit one sentence articles or dont submit your site with just a url to another site because that wont get you anywhere either. What I am saying is: Post good content and bookmark it yourself, if you dont do that for your own blog when no one else is then no one else will and no one else will start doing it. So get your blog out there.

The bible does not say love your neighbor as you love yourself

November 27, 2007 by evl

The most misunderstood scripture might be just this one, the bible does not say love your neighbor as you love yourself, that promotes self love which goes against the rest of the bible instead the bible says love your neighbor as yourself not as you love yourself. Big difference. That means put your neighbor in your place and remove yourself totally, put him first instead of yourself. That is what the bible says, it's got nothing to do with how much you love yourself.
