Alone on the False Bay sea.

August 28, 2008 by evl

This little hobbie cat was quite deep with one guy on it. Guess he does not have a fear of sharks. This photo was taken with a Canon 450D with a sigma 18-200mm lens.

If you look to the left of the photo there is a black dot, this was the whale i blogged about earlier.

Tiger Shark in Cape Town Aquarium

August 18, 2008 by evl

This is a tiger shark in the Cape Town Aquarium. Not entirely sure if its a tiger shark but as far as I know. These things are huge and their teeth looks dangerous close up. They swim right pass you and it feels like you can almost touch them if it wasn?t for the thick glass and water separating the people from the magnificent creature.

The harbour wall in Gordons Bay

August 13, 2008 by evl

This is the side where the navy trains, no humans allowed to go there. Although there was a guy swimming just left to this thing when I took the photo. There are some sharks but not a lot, I would still not swim there. I tried to get the harbour in the center of the photograph, looks like it worked.

Sunset Beach in Cape Town

August 9, 2008 by evl

This is sunset beach in Green Point, Cape Town. Not much of a beach but as soon as the waves come this place is packed with surfers. I personally would not risk surfing here but I guess they know what they're doing. Strand in Helderberg still remains my favourite surfing spot, probably because I know the area and I am quite afraid of sharks.

Crystal clear water in Gordons Bay

July 28, 2008 by evl

If you are not into fishing and all that stuff you might wanna grab those goggles and head down to bikini beach in Gordons Bay this summer. On some days the water is so clear you can see everything. Even when going deeper into the water you can still see clearly. A few years ago we were swimming and I had some goggles on. A shark swam passed us, well it was about 10 meters away but if the water was dirty we would not of seen it.

Its amazing some days when you sit on your surfboard, especially in the Strand you can see schools of fish swimming right under your surfboard, and the occasional dolphin and shark.

In recent years shark activity has increased here in False Bay , some say its because of the cage divers that feed the sharks while other people blame it on global warming and not enough food in the sea.

Massive waves over Harbour in Gordons Bay

June 1, 2008 by evl

Its understandable to figure out why they had to redo the harbour in Gordons Bay. The waves in recent times have grown bigger in Falsebay despite people claiming otherwise. The other day the waves was so big on Bikini beach that they broke against the wall at the end of the beach. That means they went right over the beach and basically broke into the road. That was the first time I have seen that. Gordons Bay is also a great surfing spot here in the Helderberg and now and then there are these swells that come in and people come from far to catch a surf. Personally I dont surf in Gordons bay because I have seen some nasty sharks around here. There are also dangerous rocks. As a longboarder I am really not in the surfing idea for the rush of it but rather for relaxing.

Behind Hangklip Harbour, Overberg

May 2, 2008 by evl

Hangklip Harbour is a popular fishing spot and also used to be a great crayfish spot. Hangklip harbour and the area around it is also a famous diving spot with a few sharks. Hangklip is no place to joke around since many people have drowned there. Hangklip is also one of the best places for photography and there is many places to stay and accommodation. Hangklip is about 80km from Cape Town and about 30km from Helderberg.

Helderberg from the sea

April 21, 2008 by evl

You can mainly see Strand in this photo and part of Somerset West on Helderberg. This was actually taken from Gordon's bay but just zoomed in that it looks like it was taken from the air or sea. As you can also see there is some guy paddling in the middle of the ocean. With all the sharks around here that is a bit to deep for my liking. Its mostly safe to swim here in Falsebay but not that deep.

I think I might of posted this photo before but here it is. This is Hang Klip. I thought this was Rooi els but nevermind. Hangklip is well known for fishing as well as holiday accommodation in the western cape. You can see some fisher boats if you look closely. This place also used to be a big crayfish diving area. Hangklip also has some sharks and is about 100km's away from a famous shark diving spot.
