Really cold here in Helderberg

October 2, 2008 by evl

Last year this time it was a bit hotter than this. They say its the worst rain we've had in 50 years here in Helderberg. Just last week we still had snow on the mountains. I think i've had enough winter for one year now. Summer just is not coming.

Groups are not always safer in survival situations

September 9, 2008 by evl

There are many ways to prove my statement but I would like to show you two examples. In the movie End of Days if i am correct they were in a group but the guy that had the biggest voice and looked the most trustworthy was followed by all the people where they died in the snow. I know its a movie but also a classic example of how groups dont always make it. Another example is in the Rwanda genocide there was a girl that made it. The only reason she made it out alive was because she fled the groups and made her way to the other country. The entire group she was with chose to stay and they all got killed. Its just if you are going to be in a group, dont just follow the herd as they may not always be right. If you feel you're chances of survival is to separate from the group, my opinion would be to do so.

Survival hut and house building and tents

September 9, 2008 by evl

When in survival situations you still need to sleep. Whether that's in a camping tent a house or a hut, you still have to sleep. Hut building is fairly easy, sometimes easier than setting up a tent. I think even if you have the tent you really need to learn the skill of hut building. A bit of carpentry can take you a far way in the wild. Especially in cold locations, its priceless to know how to build a nice working hut when it snows. Tents also are not always that wind resistant and can easily blow away. So I guess the point of this post is that you really need the skill to build a hut, even if you have a tent. I am in the process of acquiring a video camera, I shall then show you how to build a nice hut with a few sticks.

Why travel South Africa?

July 16, 2008 by evl

Well as you might know South Africa is one of the most dangerous places in the world. Even in Africa, its still one of the most dangerous places in the world.

But between all the danger there is still a beauty that can be found and if you know where to go or what is explorable you might find yourself having a nice time and see the nice side of South Africa.

South Africa has something that you could find in every country and that makes it also one of the best places in the world for travel.

We have snow, desert, forest and well sometimes miles of not much to see.

But there are places that are unspoiled and where no man has walked before. Those places are in South Africa and still need to be explored.

Mountains of Helderberg.

This is the first photo I really like that I have posted here on Helderberg Photoblog. It was taken just yesterday in the morning when it was so misty. It's strange how most photos come out very blue of the Helderberg area. On a windy day you can see these mountains clearly. Except for that this is one of my favourite photos so far on this blog.

You can also see the snow on the mountains in the background. I think you can also see those mountains from Franschhoek or it might even be the Franschhoek mountains.

Cold here in Cape Town

July 12, 2008 by evl

Actually somerset west. Its so cold right now my hands and feet almost have no feeling. This must be the coldest its been in a few years. The Helderberg mountains or hottentots holland mountains are covered with snow. Floods have wrecked some farms. I wonder what's next.
