Up the Creek 2013 Line Up Running Order:
We’re super excited to share the running order of the bands for Up the Creek 2013 with you. This year’s line up will have you dancing in your party shoes all weekend long!
In typical Up the Creek tradition we will be running live music on 3 stages throughout the weekend: The 4th Street Main Stage, the MK river stage, and the late night Rolling Stone stage. Also look out for the new addition down at the river this year: the BOS acoustic river stage will be keeping things flowing between sets.
Pull in on Thursday, 31st January for a chilled out preview gig at the Rolling Stone SA stage. You can choose the best spot for your tent and kick-start the weekend’s carousing. The place will be cooking by the time the rest of your friends arrive. The bands and artists performing to kickstart the weekend on Thursday night are: Saintfearless, The Swingsetters, ISO, Piet Botha, the Lizard Kings, Tombstone Pete and Dave Ferguson.
Rolling Stone SA Magazine will be showcasing up and coming bands on Friday afternoon. Be sure to arrive early to catch performances by Crimson House Blues, Ballistic Blues and Long Time Citizen. Comedian Nik Rabinowitz will take the stage at 18h00 to woo and welcome all.
What better way to switch gear and get into the full swing of the weekend than by having some of SA`s most popular and talented female artists making waves on the 4th Street Main Stage. The line up for Friday night is themed: Up the Creek`s Tribute to Women and it includes performances by SAARKIE, Tailor, Machineri, Karen Zoid and BEAST.
Saturday morning`s cup of coffee will be with Lucy Kruger and Shotgun Tori and then you can move down to the river for the Anything That Floats Competition, sponsored by Lilo* – float your homemade boat, while listening to Peter Mitchell, Trenton and Free Radical, No One`s Arc, Nomadic Orchestra and Grassy Spark on the MK river stage, right next to the river.

*Lilo is a creative web design & digital marketing agency that turns great ideas into creative digital solutions. They do everything that is web. You name it, they do it. Apart from having some of the best developers in town they also have the best Wii tennis players on the block. So if you want to keep your boat afloat give them a call (021 424 2797) or go to www.lilo.co.za
Red Bull “splash your neighbour DJ series” will keep the rhythm going late afternoon, before you head back up to the main stage.
Saturday night brings you more of the best on the 4th Street Main Stage: YOAV, Peachy Keen, Jeremy Loops, December Streets, Desmond and the Tutus and Black Cat Bones.
To top it all off, the Rolling Stone SA late night stage will keep the party going after the main stage closes down for the night. Friday night`s late night acts include: The Mysticcs and Good Night Wembley and Saturday just after midnight you can dance to the beat of Woodstock Mafia and Taxi and Friends.
Sunday morning`s hangover cure will be Janie & The Beard and Piet Botha and of course a splash in the river to the happy tunes of Dave Ferguson, Shotgun Tori and Akkedis. Funnyman Siv Ngesi will also be showcasing his new material.
So, now you know who’s playing and what the score is. All you need is your ticket, your tent and your toothbrush.

Mzansi’s most celebrated outdoor social event, the J&B Met takes place at the Kenilworth Racecourse on Saturday 2 February. Cape Town is transformed into a party zone for the fun-loving and fashion conscious descend on the Mother City for a weekend to remember.

The J&B Met is an event like no other. Following the theme, Made to Fly, expect ground breaking fashion and bold attitudes by icons styled for success. J&B and its convention-challenging attitude, celebrates all those who find a way to defy gravity and fly.

Regarded as South Africa’s most prestigious horse race and Cape Town’s premier social event, the J&B Met celebrates its 36th anniversary as the country’s longest standing sports sponsorship.

The event showcases mzansi’s sixteen top racehorses who compete for a stake of R2.5 million over 2 000 meters.

Tickets for the J&B Met cost R185 and are available through iTickets.co.za. Keep a look out for J&B Met fashion specials at selected fashion boutiques in the major centres. Visit www.jbmet.co.za for more information or follow @Official JB Met on Twitter for regular updates.

J&B Met just around the corner

Made to fly, this year’s theme for that spectacular event that takes place every year in Cape Town.

2013 will be their 35th year and will still be hosted at Cape Town’s Kenilworth Racecourse where the event has been taking place since the beginning of the J&B Met.

This top class event is one of the best Cape Town has to offer, classy people, good fashion and great food and of course the horses.

Last year the event attracked thousands of people from all over South Africa.

Rich and famous, glamourous and sexy everyone that has a name in entertainment or sport was there.

The theme this year, made to fly will bring some interesting outfits to one of Cape Town’s biggest events.

The tickets this year cost R185 each and are on sale through iTickets.

Check out the J&B Fact sheet:

J&B celebrates its 36th anniversary as the sponsor as the J&B Met this year.

What started off a small sponsorship in 1977 has become Justerini & Brooks’ largest sponsorship worldwide and a huge economic generator for the city.

It’s J&B’s unique heritage that has inspired the ‘Made to fly’ theme for the 2013 J&B Met. With a history of challenging convention, from its bright yellow label and green bottle to its unique blend of 42 whiskies, J&B has always been made different.
‘Made to fly’ calls on supporters to challenge the status quo and to break the rules of fashion. Make your outfit from something truly different, wear what traditionally should not be worn, but whatever you do, make sure you do it different.
The early history of the J&B Met is linked to Lord Charles Somerset, Governor of the Cape during the early 1800s

The race was run on the Green Point Common. English soldiers attached to the Cape Garrison would race one another and the ladies of the Cape would come out in all their finery to watch the event.

The race moved to Kenilworth in the late 1800s and became the SA Turf Club’s main feature, held in summer each year.

It is the oldest horse race in the country with a stake of R2.5 million.
The event has been postponed twice, in 1986 and 2004, due to equine flu and African Horse Sickness.
Sixteen of the country’s best horses contest the race over 2 000 metres

Pocket Power is the only horse to have won the race three times in 2007, 2008 and 2009. Before that Politician had won the race twice in 1978 and 1979.

The J&B Met is the largest annual outdoor social event in the Cape Town.

The J&B Met attracts more than 50 000 people to the racecourse, a record for South African horse racing.

The J&B Met Hospitality Village and picnic spots houses over 2 500 guests to lunch and dinner.

Five different parking lots within a radius of 1 km of the racecourse are used to cater for the +-20 000 vehicles used to bring spectators to the J&B Met.

Fashion designers open their studios early in the year to make outfits for clients to wear on J&B Met Day. Some launch specific J&B Met ranges.

Local shopping centres and fashion boutiques participate in various promotions assisting patrons in what to wear to the J&B Met. This stimulates the fashion industry in one of its quietest months.

Every horse groom is supplied a J&B overall on Met Day and wears it with pride for the entire year.

Kenilworth Racecourse is unique in that it has three racetracks, all-finishing in front of the grandstands with one pull-up area.

Tickets for the J&B Met are available through Webtickets on http://www.jbmet.co.za” www.jbmet.co.za or designated Gold Circle’s tote offices around Cape Town and at the reception offices of the Kenilworth Race Course. Ticket enquires can be made by calling Kenilworth Race Course on 021 7001600.

In terms of the liquor and gambling legislation, the J&B Met is a no persons under 18 event.

No liquor is allowed into the Kenilworth Race Course on Race Day. Various on-course liquor outlets retail an extensive range of brands and mixers.

A huge branding exercise ensures that Cape Town is covered with J&B Met livery. The City of Cape Town carry flags on the street poles. Many of the shopping centers create centre court displays while over 600 individual stores participate in the branding promotion in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban.

Numerous J&B Met pre-Met parties take place many of them outside Cape Town.

The 2013 J&B Met has made responsible drinking one of the focal points of South Africa’s biggest, horse racing and social events.

Get ready for some Dubstep, Skillex comes to town

The world’s top music artists seem to love Cape Town, or maybe they secretly want to visit Cape Town but cant exactly find an excuse.

Who needs one anyway.

The newest international artist coming to Cape Town is Skrillex.

Coming to drop some bass on February 28 the event nor the prices are yet known.

EDM or Electronic dance music is different from Dubstep even though most music experts wont agree, the love of EDM really began rising in 2012 after Dubstep dropped into popular culture.

EDM won three Grammy awards last year and the event will sure be a blast.

End of the World Party

There are very few of these around in Cape Town, End of the World parties are happening all over the world. Apparently the Mayan calender is at its end and no one really knows what would happen the day the calender ends. Maybe the Mayans hid a extra large bottle of champagne somewhere and on the 21st the top will come off.

Centuries ago the Mayans predicted a cataclysmic transformation of the entire planet would take place. Based on astronomical alignments and numerological formulae the date of this mystical phenomenon has been shown to be the 21st of December 2012, which is known as The End Of The World, as we know it!

We hold the space with intent to allow the release of everything that is not who we truly are. In return, we receive from inner being the very essence of our radiant light, our powers of the infinite, so to s

With this comes many forms of beliefs and methods to reasoning as to what will actually be happening. Will the idea of the “end of the quarantine date” where the influences of diverse universal races have not been allowed to interact with our kind now be entitled to do so? Or will the idea of us going through a photon belt of white light be the representation of a shift of consciousness from a third dimension to a fourth dimension, opening the gateway to understanding our truth?

Can anyone really know the truth to what has not happened yet in our reality? Some ideas give thought to us existing on simultaneous existences in multi-dimensions, there fore all possibilities are happening already and we merely have to shift our vibration to that which we wish to prefer to exist within.

One certain truth does however exist. That we will be celebrating this magical date across 3 glorious days to encompass all beliefs and beautiful ideas together and allow it to be an “the experience” to remember in our lifetime irrespective of the outcome and welcome in a new reality.

The simplest of ideas can be the redirection of someones life from a dark place to the light, such as the idea of play. To be involved with the idea and enacting in a playful manner has the capacity to heal and transform any ailment or psychological challenge within people. It is the key to all that we seek, true joy and happiness.

It is with this in mind that we have decided to donate a portion of our proceeds to the “Blikkiesdorp 4 Hope” initiative and we hope to raise the funds necessary to build a proper playground for the 8000 children living in this “Temporary Relocation Area” in Delft to help bring some joy into their lives.

There will also be collection boxes at the event, so join us in helping spread joy to these kids and enriching their lives through the gift of play.

HOLI ONE Colour Festival launches in South Africa in March 2013

Prepare for an exhilarating day of rich vibrant energy and mischievous behavior as the world’s biggest colour festival launches in South Africa.

The original Holi Festival in India is a huge fun-filled celebration of music and dancing, uniquely characterised by throwing special coloured powder into the air (and at each other) to express freedom and the colour of everyday life.

The festival concept has quickly gained popularity worldwide with colour festivals springing up in Berlin, Dresden, Munich, Hannover, the USA and Singapore.

Now Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban are in for a treat as 2013 sees the launch of the inaugural HOLI ONE Colour Festival on South African soil.

Thousands of enthusiasts in each city will come together in a thrilling atmosphere of electronic music, performance art and visual stimulation. Dressed in white, revelers at the open-air festival will soon be covered in brilliant hues as the air is filled with the clouds of brightly coloured powder at a countdown on the hour, every hour from 2pm.

Award winning agency Seed Experiences – the company behind the hugely successful Rocking the Daisies Music & Lifestyle Festival – has been appointed as the project management company behind the South African HOLI ONE Colour Festival series. All three events promise to be an inspiring initiative, centred around the theme – ‘We are All One’.

The global HOLI ONE festival is not directly linked to the original Holi Festival, nor with it’s religious aspects, but is definitely inspired by it and shares the same values – a day steeped in the old Indian tradition of bringing people together in love and peace, a tradition that transcends backgrounds and cultures” comments Brian Little, Managing Director of Seed Experiences. “We will carry this ethos throughout all of our planning, promoting a spirit of camaraderie and togetherness in the ‘We Are All One’ philosophy. Something that we feel is very relevant and necessary in the South African context”, concludes Little.

Cape Town will be the first city to host the HOLI ONE Colour Festival and it promises a brilliant line-up featuring some of the biggest DJ acts in the country as well as a host of the freshest and most impressive new DJ’s exploding onto the Cape Town music scene

The HOLI ONE coloured powders are safe, water soluble, completely non-toxic and environmentally friendly.

If you would like to take part in the festivities, make sure you get your hands on the hottest ticket in town!

Chris Brown to hit Cape Town with a bang

No fun untented. Hide your girlfriends because angry man is about to rock out Cape Town. The award winning musician, also famous for numerous other things like dating Rihanna is coming to Cape Town in a few days. Chris Brown will perform in Cape Town at the Grandwest Arena on the 19th and 20th December.

So if you are in the mood for some beating music from none other than Chris Brown and his broken umbrella then be sure not to miss this once off event.

Skrillex comes to Cape Town

The guy with the skew hairstyle is about to hit Cape Town this summer with his slightly conservative dub step.

This will be quite the event and just like Lady Gaga tickets are expected to be sold.. obviously. Just how many dubsteppers there are in Cape Town is debatable. If all the hipsters do follow the trend we might see a massive crowd oversized glasses and unwashed masses flocking to the Cape Town Stadium where I supposed this affair will be considered.

Although personally Skrillex to me sounds like a dysfunctional dishwasher I do suppose he has quite the following crowd which cant be said of me I guess.

Anyway, be sure to visit computicket next year when they will start selling these paper thingies for ridiculous prices that will enable you to enter the arena.

The event takes place on the 13 of February, a day before Valentine’s. How sweet.

SixLove Events, proudly presents

the 5th annual

(Southern Ink Xposure 2013)

January 25 – 27, 2013 at Cape Town City Hall.

Now going into its fifth year, the Cape Tattoo Expo has evolved into the most important lifestyle festival of its kind on the African continent. With a greater range of top international tattoo artists attending and a very exciting arts and concert event schedule, next year`s Cape Tattoo Expo promises to be the best one yet.

The 2013 festival will be held at the iconic Cape Town City Hall. Event organizers Manuela and Allan Gray are thrilled with the new venue: “We are very excited. The event has grown significantly over the past few years and City Hall is the perfect space for the size and vibe of the expo. For the first time we can host all of the related events: the expo, art exhibition and concerts under one roof.”

About the Cape Tattoo Expo:

It was back in 2009  that renowned tattoo artist Manuela Gray realised a dream of putting together an international tattoo convention on South African soil.

Held at the CTICC, the inaugural event was attended by more than 75 artists, amongst them some of the brightest stars in international skin ink. For the 5 500 members of the public who attended the first event it was a clear sign that tattoos and tattoo culture had outgrown the stigma of being a ‘fringe’ or ‘backstreet’ art form and found its place in mainstream society.

Over the following four years, the event attracted scores more top international artists to the Cape shores, to the point where artists from over thirty countries have attended.

In 2013, Southern Ink Xposure will again bring the best in global tattoo culture and lifestyle. Attendees can look forward to thrilling in the artworks of big-name international convention “regulars” such as Bob Tyrrell (US), Laura Juan (Spain), Randy Englehard (Germany), Robert Hernandez (Sp/Pol), Mark Bester (UK), as well as the very best that South Africa has to offer.

Ticket sales:

A day pass will cost R100 (which, for the first time, includes admission to expo concerts), and an all-access weekend pass R250. Tickets will be available through the Cape Tattoo Expo website and select retail outlets nationwide from 26 November 2013.

Visit www.capetattooconvention.co.za for updates about attending artists, pre-convention concerts, competitions, and info.

Also be sure to join the Southern Ink Xposure and Cape Town International Tattoo Convention facebook and Twitter groups for all the latest news about related events  and artist info.
