Search Engine Optimization otherwise known as SEO for short is when you increase the amount of traffic to your website through natural search results and getting your site high as possible to be found first. Otherwise known as ranks, getting your website high on search engines through the use of search engine optimization will bring you more traffic and in the process can safe you money by not having the need to advertise for traffic to come to your site.

Search engine optimization involves not only what you type and the articles but also how the fine details of the site work. Sites with no tables should rate higher than sites with tables for instance. SEO goes further than just installing your site and hoping for traffic. SEO makes every important word stand out.

You also get black hat SEO, they make use of spam, scraping and link farms to gain traffic. Even splogs, who steal content and then do a little bit SEO can use your content to make them rich. But search engines have become more clever now days. Spam sites gets noticed and in the last month Google has moved in on sploggers. There are lots of ways of fighting sploggers one of which is just taking their traffic and their content. I will explain splogging later and how you can take your content back.

Basically search engine optimization is just the process you do to your site for getting your site out there on the search engines at a reasonable rank to gain traffic from keywords you prefer to be found for.
