I have always thought about this. Where to go when war breaks out. Something like Uhuru / The night of the long knives or some reason the entire country would be in a state of war or panic. I have thought about what a person would need and where to you get your food and water.

The Karoo
If your choice of safety is the karoo, you’d be much better off there than in a City. The Karoo has a lot of ways feeding you. The bushmen lived in the Karoo for a few thousand years already and they knew what they were doing and lived happily. But for a person that has no idea what to eat out there or how to catch bucks it becomes a bit harder.

Mountains
While the Karoo is a great place and you can see people coming for miles, a mountain can also be a great source of food and water. But one thing about mountains is the weather. It gets real cold and real hot on a mountain and its not always easy to move around. Although you wont have to move that far for food. Water would be coming from small rivers and if there is no rivers you are probably on the wrong mountain.

The Knysna Forest
The Knysna Forest is not that big. The Knysna forest has a lot of wildlife and plants you could eat and there are wide spaces where no one really lives. So one would be able to hide himself there. But going to Knysna would take some time and you’d have to know that there is something coming and go before the war or something starts.

Boat
Getting yourself a nice boat and going off in the sea is another idea. It should be a boat driven by wind and well stocked. You can then go to any small island and stay there till you know its safe to go back. There are dangerous routes in the water and the best idea would be to go to Marion Island. There lives no one.

So here is a few places one can escape to if something like Uhuru or war happens.
