There is a simple reason for wearing leather boots in the wild. Protection. Most scorpions can not sting through thick leather and some dangerous snakes can also not bite through leather. Scrorpions usually aim for the heel and as long as your heel is covered you are more safe. I am not talking about one layered shoes.
