There are many types of people that browse and read blogs, some just get to your site by looking for something specific or using services like stumbleupon, and then there is another kind of browser which go to your site with the intention to read something specific.

That is why you need two ads, one for those who are there to read things on your site and one ad for those that just pass by.

You need to optimize the one that anyone can see it and it’s clickable right from the moment your site loads, this ad should be eye catching or distracting but not to distracting to annoy your other users who wants to read and not pass by.

The other ad should be integrated in your content for those that are there to read, this will enhance the chances of someone clicking on it as well as wont annoy your frequent readers.

So the two ads one for passers by and one for readers should make more money than just one ad aimed at both. This at least is my experience.
