This was a brilliant solution on the cellphone companies part, Motorola. They could not get electricity for their signal towers in the most remote areas but where determined not to loose they’re customers base of Africa. So they put up solar panels with wind turbines at each tower to power the batteries. They might have had a selfish motive but overall it was a good thing. The reason they didn’t just pick one is because Africa is unpredictable in all aspects especially the weather. It might be really warm here but there aren’t always enough sun to power the solar panels and there could be no wind during day but at night it would storm so the wind turbines could not work on their own and there is definetly no electricity lines for the desert. So they used both.
