So i decided to move my site to fto.co.za and see what happens. I did everything according to the book, 301's and all that hassle but when the site was all set and done there was no traffic.
This blog has been running for about two years now and I've always thought about moving it to .co.za since it's a bit more local but today I am certain to leave it right here.
You see, even though google says if you do all the things that you should to correctly redirect a domain it still takes around 3 months before the traffic comes back.
Now lets not even start with the inbound links you destroy when moving a blog. Everyone says you get to keep the link juice but i dont actually agree.
I know a lot of people will tell me whatever and all.
Anyway, the point of the story is that Google uses that tool only to monitor your domains and clamp down on spammers. I have another long story behind that theory but that is for another day.
As for the redirect tool in Google Webmaster's tools I am not so sure i find that very useful.
